Sorry about that misread your question...here is the open carry states and the first link is reciprocity states. So if you have a CHL in Tx then you can open carry in all states that 1. have a reciprocal agreement 2. allow open carry.

What is really sticky for me is I travel in my work. More than once I have traveled, by truck, across several states and never even checked. It's just so natural to have it on me . . .

Yea, That is why it should include all the USA.

IF you get a Driver License you can drive in all 50 states, and use them as ID for getting on airplanes, etc.

I believe now 16 states including California allow illegal immigrants to have Driver License, and they are accepted in all 50 states.

Why is a DL good in all 50 states and CHL isn't?

Reciprocity is not absolute. With DLs the minimum acceptable standard has become pretty universal. With CHLs states have widely differing opinions on minimum standards and qualifications.

When my brother was 16 or 17 my family was in Peoria, IL visiting relatives. My brother was driving my Aunt around and was involved in an accident. Because he was a minor and didn't have an IL license the cop held on to his Texas DL questioning the validity. It took about a day to get that straightened out.

Per TABC, a Bartender/Waiter/Waitress does not have to accept a DL/ID issued by another State as a valid form of ID if they choose not to. Only DL/IDs issued by The State of Texas.

Reciprocity with CHL's is absolute. The problem is that some states have reciprocal agreements with Texas, meaning they honor our CHL and we honor theirs, and some have unilateral agreements meaning we honor theirs but they don't honor ours. It is the CHL holder's responsibility to know which states have which agreements (or no agreement at all).
