A few DIY's

A few DIY's - 12/08/13 07:39 PM

Was sitting around the house bored and figure I'd share a couple of DIY projects from the last couple of years.

Here's a light fixture we built out of old chicken feeders and a cistern pulley we found out in the pasture.

Built these out of old glass insulators.

Found this old sink on the side of the road all boogered up..it was a challenge to figure out how to set it.

Same for this tub. Had been using it for a feed trough for the last 40 years.

Used some old wood from a leftover project years ago to build the door.

My first doweling and gluing project. Built these doors and had them measured to trim...wife said that it looked too short...don't tell me my business woman...says I and away I cut. They missed the floor by a good 8 inches. Had to rebuild both of them.

Great work! You are clearly at the "master craftsman" level smile

I'm still at the apprentice level and am doing good if I can get a clean grout line or replace a fence board at the same level as the other pickets.

I don't know about master craftsman, but I have learned that 90% of projects are not nearly as complicated as they seem. There's a how to video on everything under the sun now on YouTube.

Where did you get the tub and sink refinished?

I've got the 'ole claw foot tub out of my great great grandparents house in the backyard and have been wanting to get it refinished.

Re: A few DIY's - 12/11/13 09:54 PM

Oh, yeah. What did you use to drill a hole through the insulators?
Posted By: cody

Re: A few DIY's - 12/12/13 01:11 AM

Diamond hole saw...about $12 at Lowes and a drill press. Keep it wet.

I got the materials from a guy here in town that does it. It's basically sand it good and then spray with a marine enamel paint. I was quite skeptical but it's held up.

That's what folks say...wife looked at the Pinterest but apparently you had to have a Facebook to get on. Facebook is for teenage girls and 30 year old gay men.

Isn't that the truth! You did what appears to be a great job. Question though, on the kitchen pic. Are those regular 2x's or they something special? Also is the floor above tongue & groove nail down wood flooring?

Regular pine 2x12. Had hell with logistics and wiring between the upstairs loft and the kitchen. Ended up decking the loft on top of the 2x12's then furring down with a 1x to accommodate wiring and such in the kitchen. The T&G had to be cut and fit in between the 2x's.

Re: A few DIY's - 12/14/13 05:31 PM

I can't remember if there's 4 or 5 feeders per run...I'll run out to the barn and check in a bit.

I've got $50 a run in them. Still haven't had time to run over to the barn and check but I believe it's 4 per eight or nine foot run.
