Eden hunting - 06/06/23 05:19 AM

How is the hunting in The Eden Texas area especially around the wind farm north of town. Looking at a property in that area. Was just wondering what the deer are like , and if there are any exotics. Thanks for the time.

Very few exotics unless they have recently escaped one of the high fenced game ranches in the area. Good deer population and turkeys in some areas. A few quail and can be good dove hunting around stock tanks. A good mature buck typically scores in the 135-145 range without supplemental feeding.
Adios,
Gary

Gary would likely know more than me but I think hes probably real close. I would emphasize that he said a "good" mature buck and not the "average" mature buck.

I was on the Ellis Ranch NW of Eden for a few years. Would like to get on a lease up that way again, but don't see it happening.

I have been hunting north of Eden, in Paint Rock, since 2017. In that time, the only exotics I have seen were 4 blackbuck (2/2) which I assume escaped from the HF ranch which runs along part of our property line. They didn't last long; the coyotes made short work of them. Too dry for Axis, and even the WT hunting has been poor the last couple seasons. Fortunately, we have never seen any pigs, and being near the upper edge of the Edward's Plateau, occasionally we see a buck with predominant northern genetics roll in like a tank. If your place is on or near the Concho River, or if you can get winter wheat to take, you should see plenty of deer.

depends on how far north you are of Eden. Brady mountain's tend yo have pretty good genetics. I use to hunt east concho county line and 150 was an achievable goal on wet years

Sold a buddy a place about a mile south of the Concho county line southwest of Eden.

He has hundreds of axis deer on his place. They showed up about 2 years ago.

Decent whitetail too, 150ish would be top end
