If they are hog panels they are 34" tall. I have kept all the hogs and 99.9% of the cattle out of my pens. I had one bull that liked the grass inside the pen better than what was outside. Build the pen large enough to keep all the corn inside the pen.

Take someone who is 55 or older into Tractor Supply and buy your panels. They do a Senior Discount Day the last Tuesday of every month. 20% off of most regular priced items. Some items do not qualify just have to check with them.

that's good to know!!! I need to build some new pens ... would be interesting to see if they gave that discount when buying 20-30 hog panels, that would be a substantial saving

That's Canada only. The Tractor Supply stores in Canada look like the ones in the US but different owners (What I was told by a manager). None of the TS around here will honor that, I tried.

we take 16ft cattle panels and cut them in half, on side will be smooth the other will have the panel spikes sticking up just flip them and put them to the ground never have had a problem then you get 2 panels out of one saves money in the long run we have 30 pins on the ranch and maybe 3 cows have stepped over them and fawns can get in easy with the panel only being 2ft tall. Build them round not square

my dad had a big Santa Gertrudis bull that cleared a 5' tall 9 strand barbwire fence many times when the adjoining ranch cows were in heat. That rancher would call dad a week or so later (after dad's bull serviced his cattle) to come get him. He didn't like trailers either ... that was before we had corn feeders on the place.

Some do, most don't. Last place 15 years ago a bull jumped everything. Once sat in stand watching a bull get his leg stuck for five minutes out. Took the pens down immediately and never saw a cow around them again. It was 240 acres with wheat and only 2 feeders. Idiot bull I guess. Current place no cow has ever tried to get in a hog paneled feeder. Have 4 hog paneled and rest barbed wire or sucker rod. Some are just crazy. You know when they get in as your fence is destroyed in places.

If you can it is better to build your pen in a circle rather than square or rectangle, if you can do at least 10 panels per feeder thats great.
Problem with using Cattle panel is the little pigs can get through the openings at the bottom and get your corn, thats why hog panels are built with small spaces on the bottom

How big is the property? Smaller the property, more likely they want in for a piece of corn. Like I saw, 240 acres, one guy wanted in and did it. Up the road, never an issue on over 1,000 acres in 10 years now. They just walk by and deer come right back.

I ranch for a living, been doing it for over 40 years. The place I'm talking about is my home place and a pretty sizable property. I've just got some cows that are pretty athletic. Have more issues in a dry year like last year than a year like this.
