Proud of him, we had rattled 2 spots, and were moving to a 3rd when we crossed paths with this guy. He was chasing a doe. He popped him from kneeling position at about 45yds.

It's hard to get him to smile for pics most of the time. Never seen him smile so big.

I have friends with kids that have harvested awesome deer for their first hunts as well. The following year the kids are looking for bigger and better and as we all know, it typically don't. You have to wade through the lean years too. A couple of buddies have worked hard to make sure their kids harvest does, spikes, or management bucks to start. Of course I tell them its just their way of saving the big ones for themselves. LOL

Deer was killed on our home place East of Brady, Tx. Not his first deer, and I'm sure he will kill more. He kills does also, but we usually don't take pics before making deer sausage.

Land was settled by my family, and hopefully this young man will own it someday.

Nice looking buck! Congrats! Definitely going to have to work on mom for that elk hunt next! I'm currently trying to work on my wife for an elk as well...not looking too good just yet, but persistence is key!
