Re: Eastland Texas - 04/28/15 10:04 AM
There has been a lot of rain, raining now in fact. There have been storms, hail, had a tornado just west of me a couple of days ago. Everything is growing like crazy. Your blind situation is hit or miss, might be fine and might be wiped out.

Might head out to see what the damage it tomorrow. Our place is below Lake Leon
Hoping the worst of it went South of us, we're far Northern Eastland county. Radar has made it look like the severe stuff went around us.
Having said that, I'll probably go out there to find my trailer on it's side.

Re: Eastland Texas - 05/10/15 08:34 AM
I will know more in a few hours, will be out there today. Land owners house is gone, they are bruised, battered cuts and scrapes but alive for which I am truly thankful, not worried at all about the stands and feeders.
Know there is lots to do, one if fix gate where emergency services when in. Beyond that lots of cleanup and try to help salvage all we can for them.

News said there was an unconfirmed touchdown at lake Leon? Hope you find everything the way you left it.
Straight lined winds will probably get as many folks as the twisters have, as far as property damage.
Never a good thing when the landowner calls you at 8am on a Sunday. We had built a 40'x12' patio cover on our trailer a year or two ago, apparently it's in one piece, about 75 feet away from where we built it. Gonna take mom out to lunch for her special day and then head on out there. Hopefully the tower blinds made it.
I hate, hate, that punched in the gut feeling.

My lease is north of Cisco about 3 mi south of Moran, was watching the radar last night, looked like worst part of that storm just brushed the property. Sure hope my trailer is still right side up. Fighting the urge to head that way myself.
Feel for those folks just S. of Cisco.

I'm 7 miles south of Moran. No wind damage at all. A little over 3 inches of rain in the last 24 hours and probably the worst lightning storm I've ever experienced. You should be OK. Unless you have a gravel road, probably be pretty muddy getting in.

That's reassuring for sure. Really appreciate the update. Save me a trip in this weather.

I live 6 miles SW of Eastland on CR 190 We had high winds and baseball size hail along with 6 1/2inches of rain ripped limps off of trees and destroyed our roof. we actually watched the path of this storm out our front door. I haven't been down that way yet but also heard there was a path of destruction along the path of the leon River.

Re: Eastland Texas - 05/11/15 01:28 AM
Preliminary estimate from the NWS is that it was an EF-3 tornado.
Enhanced Fujita Scale estimated wind speeds: 136 to 165 mph.
Typical Observations: Severe damage. Entire stories of well-constructed houses destroyed; severe damage to large buildings such as shopping malls; trains overturned; trees debarked; heavy cars lifted off the ground and thrown; structures with weak foundations blown away some distance.

Re: Eastland Texas - 05/11/15 02:22 AM
Anyone close to Pleasant Hill Cemetery off of 2526 near Carbon? Any word on the weather out there?
Just got back from the lease, really strange out there. There were a couple trees with limbs knocked off, lot of leaves and twigs on the ground, trash and stuff blown about camp, but that's about it. Then it took a 40'x12' barn tin awning and ripped it completely off the trailer. Evidently flew straight up, impacted the power lines 15-20' above the trailer, and flew roughly 50 yards to the west, without ever touching the roof of the trailer.
The other trailer on the lease is an 8x20 construction trailer, that's still standing upright as well, but it was blown completely off the hadite blocks supporting the frame.
And on neither trailer is there so much as a cracked pane of glass.
So whatever came through there was strong enough to blow one trailer off it's foundation, tear the awning off the other one, but only knocked a hand full of branches off the trees in the area.
Really glad I didn't go out there this weekend like I had planned.

I remember when Leon was almost finished and we had a huge rain. Was supposed to take 2 years to fill up. Took a week
Lot of heavy equipment still on the bottom of the lake

Re: Eastland Texas - 05/11/15 02:57 PM
Was out at our place on Friday south of the Eastland/Brown Co line. We lost a tank dam and there was water in places I have never seen it:
I can't imagine what it looks like now with the additional rain.

Re: Eastland Texas - 05/12/15 01:15 AM
A lease member went to the lease today. He said camp was in pretty good shape. Within 100 or so yards to the south of camp was leveled. All trees are down and scattered everywhere. A few blinds are nowhere to be seen. The others are still unavailable to be reached. We are going down this weekend to help out. It could have been worse for us. God bless the residents of that area.

Pretty bad if I don't know the roads where I hunt. What if I have an emergency? I will make sure I do know next time there

Knew I was going to find bad things when I got there from what I was told and having seen a couple pics of the place. The Landowner and her son are in the Eastland hospital battered and bruised but alive for which I am truly thankful. They were in the house, the room they were is is just bare slab now. .,
View to West from Land Owners house
This last pic is from a news source and is of her house.
