Doe In Estrous - 11/12/14 03:31 PM

Anyone used Code Red or Code Blue? Ive used Tinks in the past with no true results. The only product that has ever seem to work but then again it could be just luck was the buckbomb. Just looking for peoples insights on scents and attactants.

I use corn and bring the all natural live does. They work 100% of the time during the rut.

Tried Code Blue this weekend, nothing.

Might try Tinks or Code Red. My brother is a big believer in using scents, I'm slowly becoming more discouraged...

I just got my hands on some Whitetail Maniac 150.

Might give it a go this weekend, but after trying so many scent products over the years I'm skeptical at best.

Kinda my thoughts. I have seen it cover me more than bring deer in. I actually had 2 mature does confused this weekend literally walked under the stand twice and couldnt figure it out. They had the advantage with the wind. However I have never seen a buck come in.

rofl

My neighbor asked me opening weekend if I "put out doe P" I told him " I have real does, don't need bottled P"

He is relatively new to hunting and was putting out like 4 bottles of tinks at a time, $40 worth!! He cut down when I at least talked him into the scent wick bottles.

I have had one positive response over 1 weekend using a "doe P". It was crap on sale at Walmart one year and IMO, smelled like a perfume, no way like urine, every buck that came in that food plot, made a beeline for that stump confused2

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/12/14 05:19 PM

I've used various scents before, but I have not seen anything to make me think they helped. As stated above having real live does in front me is my preferred type of scent.

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/12/14 05:40 PM

A few seasons ago, it was towards the end of the rut. I had a 1 oz. bottle of Tinks #69, (1/2 left) & said, "ah screw it", & slung the contents of the bottle as I was heading back to my stand! A few hours later, had 2 nice 8 pts. come in. The bigger of the 2 stopped in his tracks, put his nose to the ground where I had poured the contents out. I could see in my scope, that he was actually salivating over the scent, until my .270 hit him square in the chest!!!

I've had good luck with code red. Smaller horned bucks don't even like to bend over to eat corn when that scents in the area.

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/17/14 02:39 PM

So my field test this wekend I put out code red 1st hunt no luck. I then paired up code blue and a buck bomb after that hunt and saturated the area and backed out. that Friday evening I hunted a different stand. Saturday morning I had a spike 2 small 8's and 4 does show up. One of the eights destroyed the bush where a scent bomb was hanging. The others seem to come in sniffing the ground where i used a drag. Interesting. Not enough conclusive effidence that the scent helped but didnt hurt I guess.

Had good luck using wildlife research doe in estrous, got a cartoon doe on bottle and cost about $4.99 .used on scent drag when walking to blind and made a small scrape and poured rest of bottle out about 75 yards out, literally watched buck follow scent drag path to the scrape to set up a nice shot on a 8 point .Same outcome on another hunt in Hondo with spike and buck with nose's to the ground following scent drag. For $4.99 why not give it a try

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/17/14 02:59 PM

I have tried all kinds of scents over the years and for the last two years I put a camera on my scent. In two years I have a photo of one doe walking up to it to take a sniff, but no bucks at all. I'm through using any kind of scent,

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/17/14 03:02 PM

I have tried various scents but never much luck. Last one I tried was the scent bomb. Can't say that it brought any deer in, but the bucks that came in did react to it. Most were young, but they would go downwind of it, curl their lips and then bird dog in circles looking for the trail. They gave up pretty quick though.

I use a certain brand and get great results. Never really had any work until I found the right one for the area I guess.. and knowing when to put it out.

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/17/14 03:08 PM

Over the years i have come to the conclusion its all about buck to doe ratio and hunter to deer ratio.

The majority of my Whitetail career has been in pursuit of deer on public lands. Had leases and invited onto private land hunts but mostly in pursuit of the dominated nocturnal public lands.

Back in the middle and late 90's my father and I used to hunt pulic land around Palestine, Tx. I can vividly remeber as a young man bucks going absolutly insane over Tinks 69. I can remeber one in paticular were a buck literally ripped small pine trees out of the ground he was so fired up.

Seems as though I dont get those encounters anymore. Now was their a diffrent mixture back then that is now water down do to todays ecomomic crissis who knows. Tried a few other brands. Been a firm believer in drag rags. Alot can be eplained cause alot of the realestate I hunt is over pressured by ppl. I know the age old theory of bucks loose thier mind during the rut but seems they still stay in the shawdows so to speak.

Re: Doe In Estrous - 11/17/14 03:20 PM

I actually use it as a cover smell. I spray my rubber hunting boots generously before I leave the truck. That way every step I take I'm leaving the scent behind. Seems to work for masking purposes.
