Bow hunting on public - 09/16/14 03:13 AM
I've been hunting public for a very long time and I always seem to be in the right spot at the right time. Since I duck hunt more than deer I usually hunt opening weekend of rifle season shoot a deer and then focus on duck hunting. This past year I purchased a bow practiced all summer and have gotten pretty accurate. During rifle season I've never worried bout this cause my deer usually drop within feet of where I shot but with a bow deer can run. So now I'm worried bout shooting a decent buck or doe it running off and someone else shooting the deer or claiming they shot it.... Has anyone had experience with this or have thoughts. Remember this will be my first year to hunt with a bow. The area I hunt during rifle season I never see anyone, but I'm going to try a new spot on a different property that is close to the house, I have no idea how crowded it will be or etc. I know if I'm sitting in my blind and a deer comes in and I can clearly tell it's been hit I'm not going to try and shoot it or claim it's mine even if it's a monster. That's just not who I am, I would probably help whomever drag it out and congratulate the person but I know everyone is different on public. I grew up on a lease till it wasn't affordable any longer and that's how I was raised to act.
