Thanks Erathkid!! - 11/17/13 11:49 PM

Erathkid invited me to go deer hunting over the weekend. Stayed at his cabin and hunted Chaulk Mountain. We hunted over an oat patch Friday afternoon and this fella walked out.
Thanks Mike for making a hard year for me a better one for sure!! I really enjoyed it!

Re: Thanks Erathkid!! - 11/18/13 12:45 AM

What a great weekend. I am tickled pink. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I hope you don't mind me telling the story. We got in the stand at about 16:00, Two beers later a deer walks out. Looking through the binos I could see that it was a nubbin buck, but he was a heavy looking deer. I told Curly, "it's a legal deer, you can take him if you want him, but it's still early and we can hunt all weekend". He said, after reading the post,"I shot a nubbin buck and you would have thought I farted in church" he decided to wait. The nubber was acting scared and kept looking back in the brush. I thought to myself, there's a buck that's been messin' with him. He left and then about five minutes later Curly says "Mike there's another buck". I was looking through the binos and could see he would make ARs. He was breathing hard and asking me, "is he legal, is he legal? I replied, Yeah, he's le (kaboom) gal... I had more fun being the guide than I've had in years. Success. We partied that night with Mr.Beam. I was telling him "Beam me up Curly". It was fantastic. I couldn't be more proud of you buddy.

Re: Thanks Erathkid!! - 11/18/13 04:15 PM

Every buck we saw had lovin' on his mind. About two hours before we got this deer we went gathering firewood, Curly says, is that a cow standing back in the brush? I pulled the truck up a little bit and big boy was standing there looking at us, a massive buck. He gave us a quick glimpse and then he was gone. Saturday evening I thought we would drive our easement road and look for hogs. We crossed the creek and came up a steep bank and right on the side of the road about 60 yards down there's a doe standing at the edge of the cedars then we caught a quick glimpse of a BIG rack right behind her. They left pretty quick and we didn't see them again. Saturday, my nieces boyfriend was hunting for a big spike that we've seen over and over. This was at noon. A doe came out with her tongue hanging out and right behind her was a big ten point with a huge neck and heavy beams. He wasn't given the OK to shoot anything but the spike so he just watched them at about 20 yards away. That took a lot of restraint. Way to go Chance. bang

Re: Thanks Erathkid!! - 11/20/13 02:53 PM

I know we're beating a horse to death on this thread but just wanted to share more of the story. Stephanie at "Kenny Freds" called me sunday and told me my deer was ready to pick up on Monday morning. Caped out and processed for $140. Got up, shaved, showered and got dressed. Pulled a shirt out of the closet that I probably haven't worn in a year or so, lo and behold There's 4 $20 bills in the front pocket. I don't ever remember misplacing $80. It was my guide fee from above. As an aside, I've been back over to Chalk Mountain twice since Curly shot his deer and have seen NADA...It was meant to be, Curly. cheers

I asked if any of them had ever just stayed up and went to straight to their deer stand. Haha.
They kinda remind me of my East Texas beer lease, I mean deer lease buddies. grin
