Does my son need to take hunting course?

I'm wanting to get my son out hunting this season for deer with me. He is 12 yrs old. Is he required to take a hunting course prior or can I just get him a youth hunting license and have him hunt with me?

When he does need one, you can do it online now with no field class.

But the son will have to be 17 or older to take the online course.

It's a good idea to get them to a class if possible. They will learn so much. I'm in same boat, 14 and 12 year old don't have it yet, they play every sport available to them and we can't find an open weekend for this. They just have to be with me if they want to go.

when I send my son to a class, I want to check out the instructor first. I've heard stories about instructors spending too much time on their opinions rather than the course material
