I'm thinking Throckmorton County in particular.

Mid to late May to early june. TPWD did a study on the rut in Texas a few years ago. Look it up, it has all areas of the state listed. It is extremely accurate.

Not sure about North Texas but I saw a new born fawn in McCulloch county yesterday.

I was at my buddies place in eastland county early last June, and about midnight, a fawn that had to be less than two weeks old strolled into camp and bedded down not more than 15 feet away from the fire. Coolest thing I've ever seen. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

That is crazy. Momma must have been bred in September?

It is hard for you to tell from the picture, but this little guy was only about 8-10 inches long. At that age, they obviously have not developed a fear of man. We did not touch him/her, but took some pics and watched for about a half hour before we went to bed.

That would mean that doe was bred in early September. Count back 200-210 days and you have the conception date.

Could it be an axis fawn?

Doesn't look like an axis to me. Head is different, and the spots are not regular. Most axis I've seen have spots that are distinct and don't touch. This one has spots in groups and blotches. But it does look like a baby buck.

Yes, I don't see the Axis pattern. That has to be one of the youngest WT fawns I've ever seen.

That little deer is too cute. I bet when he stands, he's kinda wobbly!

Yea, I watched him walk in before he bedded. Wobbly would be an understatement. There was a big pasture not far away, and we figured momma was feeding over there somewhere.

cool picture. I wonder what happened to his momma for him to be venturing that close to camp.

She' fine, I'm sure. I've had one drop right next to our house. Water perhaps?

Have said it before and will probably say it again, when a doe is in estrus she will find a buck willing to breed. When the Buck to doe ratio was crazy out of balance around the place in Mississippi there were fawns dropping at crazy times, like Feb and November. Then again with a 26 doe to one buck ratio what would you expect.
