Just checked camera behind the house have five young bucks from cowhorn spike up to what was an 8pt but sometime this week(around 12/14) the 8 lost the right side of his rack. Was wondering what was the earliest the rest of ya'll have seen bucks dropping horns? also had several pics of all of em sparring/fighting at the feeder but didnt see the side he lost around the feeder area. The boss is a 16" heavy horned 7pt that the rest are fighting with so he may have knocked off the one side. Have been watching these deer for past three years since they were fawns. also have three small food plots for them. Lot of fun watching em grow.

An individual buck could drop antlers any time if he's got some type of physiological/hormone issues or is in really poor condition. Definitely earlier than normal.

You sure he did not break the antler off close to his skull or into his skull? Seen it happen many times with bucks during the rut.

only one time that we had a deer come in during early December hunting season that had started to shed. One side was off and the other was about to. Luckily the hunter had the shed side. Said it flew off when the deer jumped up after being shot. Most the time we have no issues with shedding even from deer coming in in February on MLDs.

Where I used to hunt in northern Erath county they wouldn't start dropping until the end of February

It was broke off below the skull? Was ther a chunk of skull bone with it? That would make for a cool pic!
