How many deer have you taken?

In all your years of hunting? What caliber took most of them?

Me, in 20 years probably a dozen.

30-06 was the most common caliber.

I will refrain from posting a number but the majority were taken with a .270 (I will say it is a lot). It has been over a 40 yr period.

I will probably kill a dozen this year alone in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas

I use .243 for rifle season (if I even use it) and a bow or crossbow for the archery season.

I shot 1 doe with .308 when I was 15(25 years ago)

In the past 10 years I've killed 6 bucks with a bow and lost 1 and I still haven't gotten over that 1

28 years hunting deer............a lot. first year on a poorly managed ranch that went MLD really kicked the number through the roof
.308 on the majority, with a 7mag, -06, and 22-250 sprinkled in for variety

I began hunting with my dad about 98 when I was 13. I have killed 4 deer, all bucks, in my hunting career. All have been shot with. 270. Two with a win mod 70 using remington 100 grain corlokts. 2 with my current rem 700 using 130 grain winchester powermax bonded. Sighted with 130gr corlokts now but just ordered 2 boxes of federal 140 grain accubond ammo for this year.

Since we're talking numbers, does anyone keep count of misses? My number is 2, both time I got ate up by nerves.

I will refrain from posting a number because after 55 years I honestly don't know. It's a fair amount. Most were taken in my younger years with my first deer rifle a .303 British Infield, then later years I hunted strickly bow for 16 seasons, then muzzleloader, then back to bow, and now with my eyesight not what it used to be I'm into using a single shot scoped rifle. Might be a .243, 454 Casull, 45-70 Govt. just depends on what I feel like shooting with my handloads.

Quite a few. Most of them have been shot with a 300wm

Too many to know exactly how many but most taken with a Winchester, Model 70, .30-.06.

Alot through the years. Ive never kept count. Mine are probably pretty evenly split between a 25-06 a 7 mag and a bow.

Have taken a few in 40 years of hunting, most with 7mm-08 and 22-250. Not sure of how many, never really kept up with it.

In the last 4 years I killed about 50 or so deer. All with a .270 Win. Prior to that, lifetime kills would be around about the same, maybe more.

If you count deer that I put down while on duty after they were struck by cars, the number will be in the hundreds.

Weapons used include .357 Mag, .45 ACP, .22LR, .223 (AR15), .243 Win, .264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .308 Win, .308 Norma Mag, 30-30, .30-06, 25-06, .222 Rem, and probably a few others. Never lost a deer (knock on wood).

X2 but mine are combo of 22-250,243, 25-06, 257wby.... 22-250 probably holds the most

I honestly don't know either. Not as many as some but quite a few over 40 years of hunting.

The vast majority of those with the same Sako .270 I've had since I was 15. The ones with a bow are catching up though..

90% with a 100gr broadhead. Not sure on number. Somewhere around 50. Early years I struggled with a bow. Then my son started and I spent time making sure he was successful. Then I got into trophy only mode. Now I'm looking for multiple targets. Got one tag in my pocket from KS, six from AR, five from TX. Gonna need more arrows. lol.

I came up with 17 Whitetail bucks, might be short a few, 90% with same Remington model 721 3006 same 180 grainers
approx 10-12 WT doe, 90 % of them also with same ol' 721

so id say around 35 mostly with same ol trusty rusty my friends call it, its not rusty haha, gonna retire him this year, got me a new 300 win 700LSS this year, gonna be hard to retire the 06

Hunting MLD and high fence ranches down south has given me the opportunity to take many deer.. Don't even want to guess at this point.. but every year, i try to rotate thru my collection but also the area im hunting will play a big role.. I would say most common is the .270.

Between 50 and 60, most of them were does. I filled my tags in a 5 deer county every year for about 7-8 year with all does, wish we had mld!

Wow. Over the last 29 years maybe 35 hard to remember. Some years I took 3 others I took none. One year I filled all 5 but that was a long time ago when we were invited to thin a hill country herd. Mostly with 30-06, 30/30, 243, and a few other calibers and an old PSE Vulcan II bow. Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinoise, Texas and soon in Kentucky or Nebraska (I hope).

a few deer with a bow, a few with a 243, 7mm mag,7mm-08, 270, 30-30.

a few other things with a 50 cal, 240b, 249, and of course 5.56... but we wont talk about those!!

Oh and the majority of mine were with 270 win and 150 gr NP's, the rest are a mix of 280, 300wby, 223, bow, 243, and 54 cal smoke pole.

One of my buddies does cull shooting and doe shooting on an mld place, he has shot about 20 deer a year pluss whatever he shot on his own hunting in texas and out of state. Not sure how many, but its a bunch!

Been blessed to help out on 2 different ranches over the years with their MLD, so I'll just say a bunch. My best in one year was 24 off of one ranch, most my MLD hunts are done with my .223, cheap ammo and no recoil. I trophy hunt with a .270.

Bucks and does, over the last 29 years? Good lord, I have no clue. I would have to say most were taken with .270

My first miss was at age 10 shooting a 410 with a slug. It was my first shot at a deer, and my only miss for the next 24 years. I killed a sapling.

24 years later, I missed the same doe twice with my bow. I had stalked up to a group of three does with my bow. The stalk had my adrenalin pumping so hard, that I did not even notice the barbed wire fence between the two of us (and I was shaking like a wet lab). She bounded off only about 10 yards, and looked back at the arrow laying on the ground. Gave me a clean shot with the fence now in a low spot, but now, my adrenalin was REALLY pumping! I just flat blew that shot!

Have hunted for 35 yrs cant even count the number of deer used to work for a guy that had a high fence operation and we would ride the roads with a flat bed trailer to shoot all the does he was required to take when we did that we used pistols ,shotguns,rifles anything to make it interestiong and any caliber you could think of we would carry 10-15 guns a piece

I have a hard time remembering what I shot last year! Trying to remember 45+ years of this is completely out of the question!

Most were shot with 25.06 or .308 or 30-06, but I've shot at least one with everything I own except the .22!

Ive killed 4-5 a year since the mid nineties. I'd be hard pressed to see a total under 50 if I went back and counted my tags. Ive hunted in Kimble county for eternity and the land owner always encouraged us to shoot a tag full of does a year. Most of my deer have been does with about 5-6 mature bucks, a few culls, and several pigs.

I looked at our management book last time I was down there and the lowest year I could find we took 27 deer between all of us.

Wow after deer hunting for the last 44 years I really have no clue as to how many, As to which weapon used most have either come buy bow or 7-08. I've taken deer with shotguns, bows, .41 mag pistol, 7-08, 243,308,30-30,and muzzle loaders. Thia year I'm try for deer with a Tradition 50cal muzzle loading pistol and a self-made longbow.

i added my years up best i could remember... came up with 108 in 19 years of hunting for an average of 5.7 a year. that number is fairly accurate.. would be within 5 either way. the least i have killed was 2 and the most 11.

I've managed to tag out every year since i started huting at the age of 10. It used to be 4 deer a year until a few years ago when it went to 5 in my county. So, it would have to be over 150. I've made a lot of sauage in my life.

On a lease in Sonora we had 85 doe permits..and there
was only 10 of us..lots of meat.

hunting, as we were cull shooting for ranches or the State over the years..For about 25yrs a lot w/7mm Rem Mag., Then a lot with
a 300 Win Mag, 22-250,270,338 Win Mag, and 308's. Plus I killed
my first and best walking and hunting w/a SS 16ga shotgun..But of
all most were taken as a harvest, and we always try to make the kills clean and as easy on the animal as it can be considering what we are doing..I got much more interested in types of projectiles and shot placement over the yrs. than calibers..DD

I've killed right around 70-75 deer, + a few exotics and a sheep.

Same here. Most with my Winchester Model 70 Featherlite .270

Shot a lot more in my mind than actually putting them down with a rifle or bow.

Honestly don't know, but the majority were taken with a .270, .257 Wby Mag or 300 WSM (more mule deer and blacktails than whitetails).

20 to 25 in the 80's with a Marlin 30/30 in Kansas. Last deer from KS was an 8 point buck. Rack is on my wall in the garage. First time hunting TX deer this year. Been a long time since my last hunt. Still got the 30/30 as well as a 270. Back in the action now.

WAG - 150, that's in 55 years of hunting/putting meat on the table. Only 3 bucks, don't eat antlers. Most does head shot. 30 remington, 30-06, most with 270, lately if grandkids or ladies don't use it, I like the 243.

1 a doe with a shotgun in decature thanksgiving weekend last year...only seen two or three other deer while hunting but only been hunting for 2 years..hopefully that changes this year!

a question:

if your head shooting does, why use a larger caliber like a .270.

if i were strictly doe hunting, I'd use nothing but a .22-250

Killed more than I care to count and 90% of them fell to the .270.

I have been hunting for 17 years and have harvested 35 deer, all in which fed myself, family, and friends. 10 with .243 Remington, 10 with .270 Howa, 13 with bow, and two with a Chevrolet lol. 16 bucks (two with truck), and 19 does. The two bucks with truck fed the predators.

38 years since my first, x3 or so a year, plus MLD the past several years equals a lot of deer. This year alone I need to take 9 deer, too much math for me


Oh, and most taken with .243

My count is close to 150 and most would be with a 243. Around 20-25 would have been with a 222 I used when I was really young and have taken a couple with a 270.

2 to 4 deer every year for the past 16 years or so, at least one buck a year for 15 of those years. First deer with a 3030 win pre 64 that i still have, the rest with a .243, 25-06, .270. Been bowhunting for 4 years and killed 5 deer, mostly does and spikes, hadnt got on a good buck yet, mainly because my better lease doesnt allow stick and string!

Too many to count, back 100 + deer (mainly doe) in Alabama w/ .243 for management program on our property. 300 wsm for Nilgai and bucks on lease in Kenedy Co. DRT.

As to txtyrophy 85, used a 270 as that's the only deer caliber I owned for 25 years. Don't need to fix what ain't broke. As to 243 over 22-250, when hunting, there is a chance I could see axis, sika or feral hog or that black cougar at 250 yards, so I'd rather have more rifle. Don't always get that perfect in the ear shot.

About even between 30-30 and 30-06.

Been hunting for 20 yrs. Harvested about 20 or so deer. Most with .243 and a few with 6mm. And have never lost a deer. I'd say 75% dropped in their tracks.
