Texas Hold Em

Texas Hold Em - 07/25/12 02:37 AM

I was in Wally Mart and wandered over to sporting goods. Noticed they had corn at $7.88 for 40 pounds. I also saw a smaller bag of a feed supplement. I'm going by memory and it's not what it used to be. But I think it was named Texas Hold Em and was in either a 20 or 25 lb bag. The ingredients listed roasted soybeans, corn, oats and other stuff. Thinking of maybe getting some and mixing it with the corn. Anybody tried this and how did it work?

I am planning to use the Texas holdem also.

Haven't ever found anything that works as well or as consistent as good ole corn. Let me know how it works for you

I saw it too, but for $10/25lb bag, it is just too expensive. It is branded by Wildgame Innovations I believe. It is a lot cheaper to just go buy the roasted soybeans/corn mix for $10.50/50lb bag at Collin County feed store in McKinney.

I am toying with the options. I am in Austin, so going to McKinney won't work for me! There another thread where they are talking about roasted soybeans:

http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/u...eve#Post3377830

It looks like locally I can get 50# of soybeans for $22 or the 50/50 mix for $16. I might just get 2 bags of the roasted soybeans and mix it myself as we fill the feeder. Might still get a bag or two of the Tx Hold Em and mix it with additional corn to throw on the roads prior to getting in the stand.

Oh, a while back I was watching the hunting show that Hank Parker does and there was a new corn additive--not the C'Mere Deer but I think made by the same company. Anyway, it sticks to the corn and to show that it worked, he put it on a pile of dead leaves and the deer ate the leaves! He said at the end of the show that they worked out a deal with Dick's Sporting Goods to give a free sample pack with the corn you buy from them. Anybody see that too?

Decisions, decisions.

seems there is always new products out each year that promise to be better than last......almost getting as bad as fishing tackle. oh well, might as well step up to the plate and pay the "man tax"....what else we going to spend our hard earned money on?

We've always just fed straight corn at my uncle's place. But it's only 110 acres, although a lot of it is heavy brush and holds deer well. But I want to experiment with "extra" stuff to get an edge over the neighbors and attract and hold more deer. Since I got married I gave up blowing $$$ at bars and clubs and now "invest" in guns, fishing gear, etc. smile

Wise man! I have never felt bad after buying a new gun, can't say the same for drinking beer!

We've hunted the same property for going on 12 years now. A few years back, we were talking with some friends and looking at pics of each other's deer we'd all taken over the years. The other guys were impressed and "wished they had deer like that on their lease"...they asked where we hunted...long story short...they're right next door. One of their stands is literally 300 yards from one of ours. Our place is too small for "our deer" to be bigger than "their deer" or for us to have more in terms of numbers. After some conversation, we determined there were 2 major differences (& probably a 100 minor).....

1. we are more patient and selective in what we shoot
2. we feed corn/soy and protein well into the winter months and they feed corn only.

In my opinion & based on the above...the roasted soybean and protein give deer more of what they really need and they'll choose it over corn. Once winter sets in, they'll hit the corn hard for carbs....

2cents...and then some....sorry for the long post.

Schpanky, I couldn't agree with you more. Corn is candy and does very little for them most of the year. It does attract them though. I just got my ranch and I am doing the corn first, and will convert to corn/soybeans and protein after that. I have seen that there is enough natural groceries in Spring and Fall....supplementing in dry summers and winter is what might give me an edge with drawing and growing the deer.

If i remember correctly, it took a few months before they started hitting the soy beans. But once they adjusted you could hardly run them off. I've had deer watch me fill them during hunting season. Of course, it was young and youngsters have an all you can eat card at my feeders. One other by product of feeding the soybean...the quail seem to love it. I've read something about it being a smooth surface and easy to swallow but i have no idea?

I agree with you unless you can afford corn/soybeans together. That is the best in imo. But hell I cant afford them so it is just corn and protein for me. Good luck!!!

I did a little searching and found a youtube video that has that whole Hank Parker episode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsVQySxQnaQ

The stuff is made by C'Mere Deer and it's called Corn Coat. At the 15:50 mark on the video is where he does the experiment where he puts it on dead leaves. At the very end he says that Dick's Sporting Goods will carry some corn with the stuff already in it. But it would be cheaper to mix yourself. Looks like they have a promotion on the C'Mere Deer site where you can get 2 packs for the shipping cost of $7.95. Enough to treat two 50 pound bags.

Sneaky: Are you talking about the Corn Coat or the roasted soybean and corn mix?

I saw it today at the Wal Mart in Bonham for $7.95 for the 25 pound bag.

In Austin Wally Mart it's $9.95 for the 25 lb bag just like in the Dallas area.

Re: Texas Hold Em - 08/07/12 09:02 PM

Wally Mart near our house (Austin) has the Corn Coat --- $9.95 for a small box with 3 packets, each of which will coat 50 pounds of corn (150 pounds total). Went ahead and bought a box and will take it to my uncle's place over the Labor Day weekend to try out.

Before I came out here offshore, I mixed some of the Texas Hold Em in my feeders with the corn!!! I'll see how it went when I get home in Sept!!!
