HOLY S! - 11/10/11 02:21 PM
I'm walking the edge of some woods and give out a grunt....start to enjoy the view when I catch out the corner of my eye a buck coming straight for me....he stops short turns runs 40 yards back into woods and stops . Not a clear shot but not to bad. Well in my hast I missed......he was a big buck....got touch of buck fever!! CRAP.

Bow or Rifle?
If rifle w/scope, what settings did you have scope at? Rifle caliber?
I hear ya on that buck fever; turns your arms and hands to jelly!
Are you sure you missed? That close, bullet could have passed straight thru w/o expanding. Check for blood?

It happens to the best of us!!! If I ever stop getting excited at seeing deer, it'll be time to hang 'em up!!!

Using muzzleloader... I checked area good no sign of blood...fearing he was going to bolt I hurried my shot when I no doubt had time to breath and aim better. Ah man what a buck!

what does it matter anway? He is telling a story of how he had a close encounter with a big buck and how he got a case of buck fever. Even if he didn't check at all it has nothing to do with the story. Snafu I couldn't imagine being that close with a buck charging at me, hell i get doe fever lol.

Thanks again .... yeah that a great long rifle.... made it even sweeter !!!!

Re: HOLY S! - 11/11/11 07:25 PM
I was impressed when I saw you used a traditional type muzzle loader. That is the one weapon I would like to use to take a deer, any deer with.
Maybe you could give a few details, caliber, and such about what you used.
From what I can see, that is a nice buck. Coming from public land would have to make it even sweeter in my mind.
Congratulations.

Re: HOLY S! - 11/11/11 10:21 PM
Bobby B ... thats a lancaster style Pennsylvania rifle... 50 cal shooting a patched round ball with 100gr pyrodex. Gun i bought used of the Trackofthewolf site... nice shooting gun with a set trigger.
And you right it was nice on both accounts to use that gun on public land ...no bait no blind ....and lots of dumb luck haha
