Mr. Whitetail- Larry Weishuhn - 01/18/11 06:47 PM
Met Larry at DSC a couple weeks ago. Since I had been trying to track him down for awhile now I made sure to get his cell number so I wouldn't have to go thru "his people" anymore
So anyway, Larry will be on the show either this weekend or next so if you have anything specific you would like me to ask one of the most knowledgable deer hunters out there let me hear from ya and post your thoughts.
I am really looking forward to this interview. Larry is not only a famous hunter and advocate for the outdoor lifestyle but he is also from Houston
If you don't know who he is:

I'd like to tell him 1) that I appreciate all of the fantastic advocacy he does on behalf of all hunters; 2) he really needs to stop trying so hard with regards to his hunting shows. All the stuff thats taped after the kill then played back so it looks like he's "in the moment" is painful to watch. Other than that, like I said, I personally appreciate all he does.

He is knowlegeable but is full of bs as well.

Ask him, from a herd management standpoint, would it be better to have the doe/spike season before the general season and remove them prior to the rut?

It would take someone like him to talk in an educated way about how the AR's are effecting the overall hunting in Texas, and explain what the ultimate goal is of TPWD in his opinion.
My gut tells me he would dance around that subject kind of like a politician when handling that question, being the gentleman he is.

It still would be nice to hear a Aggie Wildlife biologist tell us the cause and affect now that it has been tried.
He should know the details we never hear about.
He's been around longer then any of the others too I bet.

Yep, that one in the 90's on take off is the one that gave him the back problems he has today. He walks with a walking stick a lot on hunts now because of it.

Since Larry has added a scope to his pistol and a tri pod, he should just add a stock extension to that pistol and his hitting percentage just might improve!

Glad he looks at ARs like I do, a good idea and some places but in time will do more harm than good by allowing a narrow high rack gene to eventually take over. Glad he touched on hogs vs the deer population. Going to shoot everyone I see now whether I take the meat or not.
