How many feeders...???

How many feeders...??? - 07/25/10 01:44 PM

Just curious, how many feeders do most of you hunt from one stand. Anyone hunt multiple feeders from one stand or is that kind of pointless? I understand some use protein and corn feeders at one place. How many have two or three different corn feeders around one stand in diff spots.

I hunt on a pipeline right-of-way and I have 2 corn feeders on it. 1 feeder about 100 yards each way. See different deer at each one for the most part too.

I hunt four feeders. 123, 135, 170, and 226 yds from my stand in a north, south, east, and west direction. It does pull different deer into the area. There are also two full time protein feeders.

Have two corn feeders at one stand. Wind considerations primary reason and the other is to have backup in case one feeder goes on the blink.

Feeder to the east with protein feeder and block feeder. Water if needed in dry year. Feed all year long.

Feeder to the north.

Most fun I ever had hunting was hunting 1 feeder 150 yards west and the other 120 yards east. Saw different deer and the west feeder was next to an ancient oak tree that had at least 10 different scrapes around the dripline ( 75 foot diameter ).

BTW,

Saw this buck all year long on camera and during hunting season last year. He never, never, showed up or was seen on camera at my east feeder which was about 150 yards away. Always the feeder to the north. Still trying to figure that one out. Same thing this year. All pictures this year have him at the north feeder again. Might be a shooter this year - has a little junk coming off G2. Let's see those horns when they get hard.....

I have 2 corn feeders at every stand on the ranch, and 3 protein feeders scattered around the ranch. We don't hunt the protein feeders, their positioned in areas we don't hunt. I protein feed year round but only corn feed from Sept to Feb or March.

I have two feeders on one stand. One feeder is 235 yards West and the other feeder is 118 yards North. It is great having two feeders in case one jams up, gets knocked down by pigs, battery goes dead...etc...etc.

x2, I had feeders set up similar on a lease and one would produce hogs every time it went off and the other deer would show up on. I'de see deer on both, but when the hogs would show up, the deer would walk down the logging road to the other one. Pretty neat b/c usually I could hear the hogs and does cross water. 9 times out of 10 if I never heard something cross water and a deer just appeared under one, it was going to be a buck.

I can see 2 feeders from my main stand, but I can't shoot to the other one, so I make up for it by putting out a lot of corn by hand in several locations and keep an eye on all of it.

two feeders, one left, one right. Great for wind changes

All my blinds only hunt one feeder at a time. We feed alfalfa bales and protein blocks also at each corn feeder.

Re: How many feeders...??? - 07/25/10 11:38 PM

at our ranch and every lease we've had, we only had one feeder.

our neighbor (whose ranch is a more or less a feed lot) has two feeders at every blind, set for different wind directions, that go off two times each per hunt, ie. once at 7 and 8, then again at 4 and 5.

i put out enough corn that if the feeder dosen't go off (has happend a few times) that my hunt usually isn't affected

Thanks for all the replies. I have one corn feeder set up now and one protein. I was thinking of setting up another corn feeder in a different direction but wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy for thinking that.

If cost is not an issue having multiple feeders definately help you see more animals.

One blind , 2 feeders. One feeder to the north and one to the south both about 110 yards away. I have a rear view mirror inside my blind, so I can look at the deer behind me without moving.

I have two feeders(corn only) for my stand. One is out in a more open area, in front of me. The second one is behind me, in a more dense area. I usually always see deer at the one behind me first. My stand is also located on the edge of a road, and there are constantly deer crossing it. It keeps me from getting sleepy, that's for sure! If you don't see something out of my stand, you've done nothing but sleep.

I like to start out on opening day by creating a kill zone that ranges from 200 yards to 50 yards.
I place a ring of corn about 2' wide at 50, 100, 150 and finally 200 yards all the away around my stand. Some times I like to alternate the rings with C'mere Deer.
This gives me the range marking as well as stopping any deer that comes my way. You never know when they might be needing that extra snack after nibbling on the 1000LBS of corn I also put on the road from camp to my stand.

Some people shouldn't even get out of bed.

What do you mean get out of bed.
My stand has A/C / heat, Orthomatic Adjustable Bed, fridge, porcelain throne, fully stocked fridge and four 52" flat screens with picture in picture. I have to be able to watch the game and the corn in surround video you know.
And do not forget my personal serving wench that ensures my thirst is always quenched. banana
If it were not for the hourly massages, I am not sure I would have the strength to be able to pull the trigger when those smallish 18 point deer come out for a nibble.

Re: How many feeders...??? - 07/30/10 02:42 AM

wow, guess i'm not hunting hard enough. i've only ever hunted with one feeder. the ranch we're on now we have corn and protein feeders on separate senderos. sometimes we hand-throw a little corn before climbing in the stand. if want to throw more corn in the season, we just crank up the feeding seconds.

at one time we had some of our feeders rigged with a push button trip, where we could trip them from the blind to feed again. i think it was more of a pain to mess with and keep working though than it really did all that much good.
