When will you start spinning corn?.......

I know its green especially for July, so when will you get your corn slinging for the deer? Im thinking of holding off until the middle of August. I will just keep some mineral licks out and an alfalfa bale until then.

We have the protein feeders full through Oct but we will fire up all the corn feeders in Sept.

I never stop either. I keep a feeder running all year.
The only time they slow down on the corn is when the acorns fall.

I would go with this approach but I dont want hogs around and thats what I would primarily be feeding right now...and thank goodness Im not in acorn country anymore. Hunting gets real tough when those babies fall in mass quantities.

Cameron and Waylon, are you feeding protein also or just keeping the corn going year round?

I have oats spinning in a couple now. As green as it is now seems pointless. Last year I had corn sprouts growing under the feeders as late as Oct. Opening dove weekend is when I start spinning corn. Oct I will spin for 10 - 15 sec. 2x per day and run like that till Jan.

Right now it's all about alfalfa.

My feeder is a 50:50 mix of protein pellets and corn.

we feed corn year around,deer blocks and alfalfa every so often,and protein from march till october.

Never stopped. Slowed it to one feed a day, free-feed protein feeders going until September.

I usually feed year round, but know that the feeders are empty right now. Need to head out there and fill them up.

Year round, I feed lightly this time of year. Keeps em in habit of coming by. I fill feeders every 6 weeks and will spin longer starting oct 15.

I have a gig in christoval this weekend. I start digging in Dallas on the 26th. I would like to come visit but Christoval is too much fun.lol

Never stop. Always throw, or gravity on corn... We feed protein from feb-nov and might just keep it going this year...

Been told to throw corn year round, just keep it light in the summer. Give the deer multiple options with respect to food sources and let them decide

I sling corn all year with protein supplement in troughs or bump feeders.

Been throwing corn for 4 years now on my place and added protein 2 years ago. Never stop any of them, just cut the corn feeders back a little in the summer.

Ranger just an opinion I think that might be the least important time to feed protien. Post rut till May is probably alot more benificial year around is best

I'm with you there Okietex but for some reason the crazy deer on my place really back off the protein during winter and early spring but they are all over the corn and hay which has little to offer but carbs.

However beginning in late May and early June, they will empty a 300 lbs protein feeder in a week. This usually lasts through bow season. Could understand it last year with the little rain we received but not this year. Prior to June, 300 lbs protein will last at least a couple of months. Thought it might be coons but pics say otherwise.

I have tons of acorns right now plus I can't afford to feed year round (monetarily). So it's just as well the deer have lots of acorns to munch on in the bottoms where I hunt.

I never stop. I just turn mine down to throw less corn during the spring, and summer if it is green and the deer aren't eating it as much.

RTP, I just feed corn and plant plots in the spring and fall. My property is too small to justify protein.

Fortunately I don't have a hog problem yet. I've seen/killed one in 4 years.

I'm going to start throwing corn and start the trail came up again this weekend... probably get my fall food plot going in september.

the majority of ours never run out. Have 3 that were supposed to go up this weekend, but not going to do it until the folks that were leasing the place remove all their belongings.

hey men, im new to the site and thanks for letting me in. my sun and i hunt the junction area and started feeding at the end of may last year. the deer did not eat much all summer and fall. i had to slow my timer down to 2 secounds and still had feed left on the ground. opening day i only had 5 or 6 deer come in and stay for 2 or 3 minutes then, move on. the deer number did increase to around 20+ the last two weeks. we have hunted this lease for 4 years and allways had 20+ deer at each hunt and by the time we get to the end of december it would slow down to 5 or less deer. 2009 was a weird season. so this year we are not feeding till around mid september and will start hunting the gun season in november.

I FEED YEAR ROUND, BUT ONLY 3 SECONDS 2X DAILY DURING THE OFF SEASON UNTIL ABOUT MID AUGUST UNLESS IT'S REALLY DRY. I JUST WANT THEM TO KNOW THEY CAN ALWAYS FIND A LITTLE SOMETHING TO EAT THERE.

I keep two feeders going year round. It keeps the deer fed and when the hogs come in, its always fun to make sure my rifle is sighted in on them.

I start in August with regular corn, and follow up with Indian corn in September.

February through August I throw a corn and soybean mix and have 20% protien in my gravity feeders. September to January switch to plain corn and 16% protien in the gravity feeder..

Year around here.. Hog panels up from June to end of season. For those that say it is too green right now to be feeding, the deer are taking all I am throwing...just an FYI..

Spin it all year is the best, just cutt the time down in the summer months and have your feeders spin a little later, this helps the coon problem I have found, I have watched deer chase off coon under lights at night.

2 seconds medium throw morning and night during first 2 quarters or year.

4 seconds medium throw morning, moved timer back and hour for evening still at 2 seconds medium throw last 2 quarters of year

Year around, and I open the hog panels during the spring, and summer to make hog killing easier. We also keep our protein full year around.
