What type of oil for my 2007 Polaris Ranger? - 03/13/24 03:00 PM

I have a 2007 Polaris Ranger 500 2x4. Does anyone use another brand/type of oil other than that expensive Polaris brand oil? My machine has about 245 hours on it. Can I put a 5W-30 full synthetic automobile oil in it?

Shell Rotella T-6 5w40, Mobil 1 5w50, Castrol 5w50, Chevron Delo 5w40, etc.

Long story short, there aren't many 5w50 oils to choose from. All of them would likely work well in your Polaris, just pick one that's easiest to get and change it fairly regularly, maybe 50 hours of run time, more often if you ride in very dusty conditions.

I buy 5W40 synthetic diesel oil in 55 gallon drums and use it for pretty much everything and have for over a decade. The only thing it doesn't go in is our newer cars that spec the 0W20. I use the 5W40 in lawn mowers, pressure washers, welders, four wheelers, side by sides, you name it. We currently have the 5W40 in eight side by sides. Never an issue.

I use Schaeffer brand but Rotella or Delo 5W40 would be fine. Polaris specs a 5W50 and while I think a 5W40 would be fine a 5W30 is pretty different from a 5W50. I don't have any scientific reasoning to back it up but I have no worries shifting +/- 10 on the recommended oil weights but shifting 20 makes me nervous which is why I don't use the 5W40 in our cars that call for 0W20.

I use Rotella T6 5w-40 in my diesel mule. Book called for 10w-40, couldn’t find a diesel oil in that weight.

I stick with Polaris brand. Buy it online and save vs from the dealership.

I used mobile 1 0w40 synthetic in my 01 Polaris ranger since that is what the previous owner used. When I sold it last year it was still running strong.

So yes an automotive synthetic will work fine.

OK. I purchased 3 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-50 (full sythetic) and changed the oil in this Polaris. Runs great! Thanks
