Really neat pic

Hard to believe what it was like before the eruption.

and yet we smother out fire every year as our forrests choke out, or we simply let the beetles win

The devastation was incredible to see when I took this picture 27 years after the big eruption

I was getting ready for work at a lumber yard in Eugene, Oregon, that morning when I heard a double boom -- like twin sonic booms. I wondered what it was, then heard what happened on the radio a few minutes later. It turned out the concussion from the eruption struck in concentric waves from the mountain. Some folks who lived closer to St. Helens didn't hear a thing.
