New Parker County Record

New Parker County Record - 10/19/23 10:36 PM

According to records of Texas Big Game Awards website; this deer I harvested on 10/13/23 is the new record for Parker County. He scored 194 2/8 Gross/183 Total Net. He qualifies for both Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young. This is my first whitetail deer; my first deer in Texas; and first deer harvested on my ranch. Never stop dreaming!

Set-up: Maverick Blind elevated 4 foot on a platform over tank/pond on one side; feeder on the other (highly recommend the peanut butter corn).
Equipment: Xpedition Compound Bow (bought used for $300) @ 55 lbs. (I’m getting old)

WELL DONE!!!!!! As a fellow land owner, I know you didn’t just haphazardly get up in a stand and get a deer of that caliber. Many hours of work and $$$$ getting things to put you in that position. What a buck, I would have had trouble controlling my nerves with a buck of that size. Congratulations

Thank you. Funny how when you love something, it’s never a chore. No matter how hard you work at it. But, you’re right. Spent days on my backhoe making the tank; hours constructing a tornado proof platform and mowing; 300# automatic feeder purchase, and about 30 bags of corn (been feeding since Aug. 30th); days on the guzzler set up (for when tank goes dry). The water supply is what brought them in. Add in the diesel, archery equipment, hours with binoculars & practice. The gratification is always greater when you put in the work.

Great stuff!

Fun question: Is that a double mainbeam on his left side, or is the lower tine a horizontal drop...or is the split just kickers to a funky G3-G4? muyloco

I became a certified scorer for TBGA when the program first started, but I wouldnt feel comfortable answering your question. Need someone with more experience and a better look at the rack. My guess would be its not the former or the latter of your options. The lowest point would probably be a NT off the main beam.

Re: New Parker County Record - 10/23/23 08:56 PM

Absolutely great buck !!! Congrats

Not to be a bubble buster here, but it takes 185 net NT for the 10 yr B&C book, and 195 net for "The Book". Still a tremendous buck but if your scores are correct then he probably won't make B&C (nothing wrong with that at all and 20"s bigger than anything I've killed)

Re: New Parker County Record - 10/24/23 09:29 PM

Guess the scorer got so excited he got confused between typical and non-typical requirements. I was misinformed. Thank you for the education. No wonder the B&C scorer hasn’t returned my call. Never a contemplated goal; but may be now.

Thank you. This only my second Forum I’ve signed up on. In my first; made many friends. I became the Rally Promoter that brought many Honda Hawk/Bros. NT650 owners together from the HawkGTForum for several years. It was taken over after my departure to Team Roping, and transformed from a “Ride/Meet” to a “Rally”. Became mostly a West Coast thing.

Official BC book score is a very lofty goal. Unrealistic for most.
Great buck.

Maybe so. But I was selected to be contestant #12 in Wayne Pearson’s Ultimate Outdoorsman Search on ESPN2 during his second contest year. Odds then were pretty slim too. First step to success in anything; start by knowing you can.

That's one hell of a first, last, 400th -- any buck! How you "got her done" without spending at least $2,000 on the latest "flagship" bow is a real puzzlement. roflmao

Exactly right. His 10 point buddy cleared out the other bucks, and I just rolled up on him and his two does this evening with my 4wheeler. We all were coming to the feeder at once. Amazing show they put on right in front of me with the motor idling.
