Wise Co Hog Contest

Wise Co Hog Contest - 02/28/22 02:20 AM

As the tournament slows to a close, I shot this pig the other night. Weighed it at 350.0 I thought he had a bit more meat on his bones but 5th place will work for me.

459 is in first. Seems people are talking about controversial rule violations at the top. When $77,000 and $44,000 is involved people will cheat but also people will accuse others of cheating. The polygraph will probably sort things out.

Do they go by live weight or dressed out weight for the contest?

Years ago I shot two big ones in back to back evening hunts and they both bottomed out 300 lb scales. The local contest back then required them to be dressed out to be weighed in. Hell, I wasn't about to gut those nasty b------ds for a contest for a damn jacket for the prize! Now if there would have been some cash money involved I probably would have gotten a chainsaw out and made quick work of gutting one of them to take and weigh in! roflmao

It’s live weight thank goodness. Yeah the $ would make it worth it. Sort of. Haha

The pics of that sucker made me automatically think something might be fishy. It'll be interesting to hear about the polygraph.

Congrats on that monster pig!

Is there any pics of the 459lber? Domesticated turned loose? That seems insane!

I saw a few. If you go to The Hunting Game on FB you can see the video of it and pics. Just scroll down a bit.

That’s what a lot think. You never know. A lot of money can make some cheat BUT it can also bring out accusations as well. I’d go from $7,000 to $10,000. With that said, I hope 1-4 all freakin’ cheated. Haha

Agree. Saw he pic's of that 459lb pig and immediately thought someone had let a domestic boar out into a pasture to shoot.

There's something fishy about that top pig I think and I aint alone in thinking that lol

Re: Wise Co Hog Contest - 03/01/22 11:01 PM

Friend of mine knifed one with dogs that scaled just a few pounds shy of that one down here a few years ago, nothing domestic about him. Just a monster boar feeding in the corn fields every night. 2'nd largest pig I've ever seen (Biggest came off the O'Conner Ranch, cowboys roped him and drug him to death with horses). My buddy had that one shoulder mounted. His Dad (now retired Game Warden friend of mine) confirmed the weight.

Lots of legit 300-350 lb'rs come out of the corn fields.

Re: Wise Co Hog Contest - 03/03/22 08:46 PM

seems like something fishy on that top hog, I've been following the progress on their FB page and it sounded like that same team was reprimanded last year for solicitation violation. Polygraph should tell the tale in the end.

I've literally killed thousands of feral hogs over the last 55+ years and anything over 250# is big, anything over 300# is uncommon, anything over 350# is very unique and rare, anything over 400# you better check your scale eeks333

I have a friend that has gotten big into hog hunting using thermal, kept bragging on all these 400+ monsters he was killing out of the corn fields around Lake Granger ... I told him he needs to buy a scale and start weighing them instead of just guessing. He gained a whole new respect for the weight of a hog's actual weight after getting that scale.

Re: Wise Co Hog Contest - 03/03/22 09:09 PM

Yep, once you start scaling pigs it's amazing to see just how far off most people are. It's also a good way to get good at guessing weights, just like getting in the habit of guessing distance and then stepping it off. Good practice.

Re: Wise Co Hog Contest - 03/12/22 03:10 AM

There was talk on this thread and others about the 1st place team and cheating. They all passed their polygraph tests. Hats off to them! Looks like I’m stuck in 5th. Would have been nice to move up. grin
