49 Years Ago - 02/01/21 06:48 PM

tlk inspired me to post this old newspaper photo of all us kids with our hill country bucks in 1972. That’s me on the right with the snazzy striped pants and not looking at the camera. I was 8. My two brothers and family friends round out the group. As I recall, that was the first and last time a girl was allowed just because of the...uhhhh...logistical challenges. Great memories....

Nice picture! I wish I had some old pics of our hunts. One of the floods got my stuff while I was away on business and couldn't get back home.

We are all from the same tiny east TX town so I would say we are always still close even though not always in constant touch. Sadly, funerals for our parents have brought us together more than anything over the past few years. Deer lease families do always have a special bond for sure. Our families had that lease for over 40 years.

Yes. Our last year there was 1990. Kids could only go once a year at Thanksgiving. We had another east TX lease with different families for about 25 years until 1999. Kids could go anytime there.

Cool pic. Did y’all actually hunt in those clothes? If so, it’s an even cooler pic. You and I are probably the same age and I remember clothes just like you’re wearing, along with Sears Toughskins.

Great memories!

Newspapers need to print lots more of that stuff today.

But, they won't. frown

No we had gotten back home when the photo was taken for the local newspaper. For hunting we wore whatever junky clothes we had. My preferred hunting clothing a couple of years later was longhandles, jeans, a “Flipper” sweatshirt, and a light Army surplus jacket.
