My wife's awesome weekend! (pic heavy) - 01/08/18 03:15 PM
After my wife's south texas deer hunt fell through again with one outfitter, I contacted Mark Watson with Multipoint Outfitting to see if he could get us in on a hunt before the season ended. Her original hunt fell through on Thursday night, with us supposed to be leaving first thing the next morning. Mark called me back at 1030 that night and said if we could make it in tomorrow then c'mon. And thank God he did because we had an absolute blast! We met our guide Cory at 2, and after getting settled in at the camp house we went straight to hunting. We corned some roads where they had some nice bucks patterned. After waiting over an hour for one buck that never showed, we drove to another area that had deer everywhere. We saw 2 nice shooter 8s, but also saw this buck that looked pretty wide and had some character. After getting confirmation from Cory that it was a shooter, my wife decided to pass on the 8s and wait for this buck to present a shot. When he stepped out, my wife folded him at 125 yards. Neither of us have ever killed a south texas deer, so we were amazed at how big this deer was all around. And the smile on my wife's face says it all! This was only my wife's 2nd buck to kill, but it was everything she wanted. He was a main frame 14 point, but had 2 broken tines giving him 12 scorable points. He scored 135 1/8. Since she tagged out so quickly, Mark asked if she wanted to help him fill some doe tags, which she gladly said yes. She killed 3 large does and 2 javelina over the next 3 hunts. I can't thank Mark enough for fitting us in last minute, and for our guide Cory for showing us an incredible time. Both of these guys helped give my wife and I a great memory. It felt like hunting with good friends the whole weekend. I'm trying to download the kill shot from her buck onto photobucket, but I'm having issues with it. Enjoy the pics and thanks for reading.
