Never seen them up here before. I'm assuming this is the Texas side? Little or Big Mineral arm? I was surprised when a guy caught a spoonbill in Little Mineral creek last year (well, sort of surprised).

Yep river otters. North East Texas is full of them. They can destroy a stock tank or small lake eating all the fish. We used to have those on our family place outside Canton. They packed up and moved as soon as the shooting started.

No but you have to get a cites tag after harvesting. I've seen them around Austin and near San Saba in a creek off the river.

I'm from that area (Texoma) and I'm not at all surprised, buddy of mine had one feasting on bluegill out of his pond 5 miles north of Caddo Oklahoma.

We saw a family of three this summer on our place in Cherokee County. Pretty cool to see, surprised to say the least. I understand that they move around quite a bit. We have not seen them but the one time.

Cool animals and something you don't see on trail cams every day.

Pretty cool on trail cam. I was fishing in a big creek one morning. I could hear a loud "crunching" sound coming from around a bend in the creek. As I rounded the bend, I saw an otter sitting on a log with a bowfin as long as he was being eaten from the head back. I walked quietly past, the otter continued to eat. I would have loved to see him wrestle that big bow fin to the death.
Pretty cool, I watched 3 one cold frosty morning go up and down a tank dam and the overflow stream catching fish on family land in NE TX.

Cool critters. Very entertaining to watch but they can decimate fish populations in small ponds.

They're not rare and they will absolutely murder the population of fish in an area.
Definitely cool animals in the, "I'd like to observe them in my enemy's pond" sort of way.
