I moved here in 1985, raised three sons here and now all of them have returned after getting an education. Population of the county is not growing as ranching is about all we have around here. While we have seen some fragmentation of bigger ranches, it is not nearly as it is south and east of us and I pray that we can keep it that way.
Lots of deer, turkeys and getting quite a few free ranging exotics, especially axis. Bobcats like the one you killed are rare as they died off nearly 10 years ago and are slow to bounce back. I am guessing that you hunt in the NW part of the county.
