New Zealand mounts back

New Zealand mounts back - 03/23/17 02:25 AM

Exactly a year to the week a group of three of us and our spouses went to New Zealand on a red stag hunt, and whatever else we couldn't resist hunting. Well today the taxidermist showed up with all of our mounts. I have been patiently waiting for this day to come and man was I not disappointed. This was a hunt of a lifetime and hope to go back again some day. Lynn Folis at Big Game Studio in Bronte, TX did an outstanding job and was great to work with start to finish.

The plan was over the mantle for the stag, however my house won't accommodate it so, it goes in the game room with all the rest. The wife just gave me the ultimatum, "no more mounts until the new house is built". I guess that means its time to start moving dirt on the new house/man cave ASAP clap .

I apologize for the picture quality, lighting isn't ideal in our game room (as in where the kids play with their toys frown )

Arapawa sheep aka Bob Marley Sheep

Catalina (Angora in New Zealand) Goat that my wife took. 30 inch curl on the right 31 inch curl on the left. 40 inch spread. A monster goat.

Can light is causing a glare. Maybe I'll get a better pic in the natural light tomorrow.

Wall of fame.... pending spots for a bobcat and my WT buck. If only I had 20 ft ceilings and 3x the space. Pipe dreams!

Ya,Old Paul is who we hunted with to. Had a beer with him and Chrissie at the SCI Convention in Las Vegas, Lee was my guide. Have stayed in touch with him since 2011, always forward him e-mails on our political scene. After the hunt spent 2 days in Auckland and did some off shore fishing and sight seeing.

Yes, Paul and Chrissie were amazing. They really took great care of our spouses going above and beyond. Spent a lot of nights talking politics and about his sons racing careers.

Lee was an absolute riot. Truly enjoyed those guys. Made some great friends and great memories. Looking to go back in a year or two for Chamois and Tahr.

I found out about Lynn through some friends I hunt with regularly. They had used him before and recommended him. He did all of the New Zealand mounts (Stag, Arapawa & Catalina). The Javelina I shot about 20 yrs ago. A guy in Denton did the taxi work on him. No clue of his name nor if he is still around. He did have a pet bobcat though, that I do recall because I got to close to his cage and he shredded my jacket up with one swipe.
