Lat/Long of photos - 01/27/17 03:52 AM
Does anyone know if lat/long are stripped off photos when they are uploaded to this forum? I've got some pics of my new blind I want to share, but I don't want to give away the exact location. I know I can download some tools to strip out this data from the JPGs but I'd rather not if I don't need to.

No unless you turn the gps off when taking the photo or have Photobucket scrub it when you upload it

I try to keep location services turned off on my phone.

Not public land, just don't want to advertise the location of the very nice blind and feeder I have.
So no one knows? Guess I'll post a pic that is not from my proerty and test....

Looks great. I'm a big fan of cedar blinds. Did you design it yourself?
Posted By: D-Box
Re: Lat/Long of photos - 01/27/17 02:29 PM
Yes, I designed it myself. I'm going to try to use real glass in the windows, and will have triangle shaped pieces up high on each end that open up for ventilation in the summer since I'll be doing lots of hog hunting from this blind. Also plan to have a 12v battery on solar charger with motion activated outside LED lights and interior LED lighting.

Thanks,
Here's a drone picture of the layout where it sits. I've enlarged the clearing to the left since this pic was taken.

I wonder if the cedar has the same effect with wasps that it has with moths?

That would be awesome, but I am going to try to seal it up as much as possible. Bought some cedar colored silicon caulk today and a few extra boards at the saw mill to finish the siding and build a door.

Where's it at?

Re: Lat/Long of photos - 01/31/17 03:14 PM
Good looking blind. Only problem I had with cedar blind is woodpeckers love to peck on cedar.
That's a great looking build! Good luck on putting some of the porkers on the ground!

Re: Lat/Long of photos - 01/31/17 04:17 PM
Thanks all. The blind is in Lee County.
Last weekend I got a door installed with a cedar handle and a latch for a lock. I also used small cedar tree trunks for corner trim after cutting 2 sides flat on my table saw. I caulked before the install (found cedar colored silicon caulk) to try to seal it up as much as possible.
I did some hog hunting with a buddy Sat evening and it was real nice, but the hogs, which had been coming to the feeder every evening before dark, didn't show.

High roller blind to shoot pigs from. Very nice

Re: Lat/Long of photos - 01/31/17 04:38 PM
Yeah, it looks expensive, but actually I only paid $100 to have all the cedar milled(3 8' logs about 12" diameter), which is less than siding from Home Depot would have cost. I used 2x3 framing which is also pretty cheap, so not too expensive overall, and I wanted to build something that will still be there when I'm gone decades down the road. I'll be using it for deer hunting as well, except for bow season when I'll be in a popup in a cedar tree closer to the feeder (you can see it in the drone pic)

If I spent that much time and effort on a deer blind it would have been bigger and nicer t so close to the feeder.

I'm fairly new to hunting after buying our property a couple of years ago, but I talked to many long time hunters. Most said that a 5x8 blind that you can stand up in, would be very roomy and feel big, so that's what I built. It is about 40-45 yards from the feeder, but we have less than 30 acres, and only one small clearing, so it works really well. Even when I'm 15 yards from the feeder in a pop up, there's TONS of deer and hogs.

Is there a stairway or just a ladder?
Posted By: D-Box
Re: Lat/Long of photos - 02/01/17 07:50 PM
There will be a platform just outside the door about 2.5' x 2.5', and a stairway coming down to the right side of the picture. I'm planning to install a couple of cedar posts on the ends of the 2x6's that are sticking out and have some cedar railing around the platform. The stairway will also serve as diagonal bracing.

There's a guy named Steve near Giddings that has a sawmill at his house a few miles down the road that intersects with 290 at Bucees. Send me a PM and send you his number if your interested.

New Blind Progress - 03/31/17 01:15 PM
I got the stairs built a couple of weeks ago, which made a huge difference getting in and out with a rifle. Also installed a cedar table/shelf in the center of the front wall. I had a buddy out and he took down the first hog from the new blind.
This weekend, I'll be installing window latches and weather stripping. It should be wasp proof after that. I used expanding foam in the gaps at the ends of the overlapping siding and that worked well. I'm also installing 1/2" foam flooring from Harbor Freight this weekend. Almost done!

Great looking blind.
Another option on pictures is to take a 'screenshot' using the 'snipping' tool on a PC. Doing this there is no data from the picture.

Re: Lat/Long of photos - 03/26/21 02:05 PM
Thanks for all the kind words. This blind is now 4 years old (this is an old thread), and has been really great to hunt in. The 5' depth gives enough room for two to spread out and stretch in the leather office chairs. I wanted to be able to see the red cedar from the inside, so there's no other coverings on the walls inside, just studs and cedar. I designed it so the two gables in the roof are hinged and open up for a good cross flow of air for summer hog hunting. I've also installed a large propane tank underneath with a hose going inside to a indoor safe heater. In freezing temps, I can go out there before sun rise, put the heater on high, and have it toasty in about 5 min. It's quite weathered now, so I'll try to post a current pic soon.
