Terrell County buck down! - 10/18/15 03:23 AM
Son and I were out elk hunting today when we spotted a buck we decided to go after this evening if the elk didn't pan out. We backed out of the area and continued our search for the bull I saw Wednesday.
This evening we got in the stand about thirty minutes before the feeder was to go off. Five minutes later a doe and twins showed up. Ten minutes later we saw movement in the brush about 160 yards out. It finally moved out in the open and it was instant buck fever. Even for me.
The buck hung back and we contiplaited shooting him where he was before the feeder went off but really couldn't get a good angle without brush in the way. When the feeder went of, you guessed it, the doe and twins bolted...and so did he. The air just left the blind. It wasn't looking like he was coming back.
The doe and kids ran about 50 yards then headed back in and we watched intently on the last spot we saw him for what seemed forever. Then out he pops. But he still hung back. Then at a dead run he comes busting into the feeder and runs the other deer off. Once they were gone, he puts his head down, perfectly broadside, a trigger pull later and we were yelling! Buck down under the feeder.
What a memory! Looked at my watch, 13 minutes from feeder spin till walking up on a dead buck. Felt like forever...at least the memory will last forever!
