The verdict is in: Quite dead. - 11/26/14 04:02 PM

Posted a couple weeks ago about my neighbor putting a less than ideal shot on a buck and not recovering it.

Beautiful morning to walk in the woods after seeing a bunch of does on stand.

After walking 1000 yards of creek line looking for a dead deer, I came back through a game trail I knew lead to my feeder. About 50 yards behind it I caught a whiff of dead animal. Heard a weird noise and looked up to see 5-6 buzzards. I still didn't think it was the buck because I shot a 200 lb boar a month or so ago and there wasn't a trace of him 3 days later. Followed the smell up wind and sure enough, found the buck within about 10 minutes.

He's bigger than he looks. Inside was 15.5 and he had good mass. This is a very nice buck for my area. He's going to do a euro. Glad it wasn't a total waste.

As the crow flies, 200 yards.

Think he ran a lot further to end up there though.

Right front leg was blown off. Guessing it went through leg and lodged somewhere in the front chest cavity and he bled to death after laying down.

Good work! Nice of you to return it also. Not sure how close you are with your neighbor but I bet he would be ecstatic if you did a euro mount for him. I've got to get my butt in the woods to find my wifes first buck. We had a dog come out, as soon as he picked up the scent he turned and went the wrong way bang

Not close enough to go beyond dragging this stank-[censored] buck for 200 yards through the woods and then cutting his head off while trying not to gag and then tying it to his barn so the yotes couldn't drag it off.

I done my duty...

I think I would have cut the head off where it lay.
