Dead deer. - 07/19/14 02:51 AM

Saw this one on the side of the road between Bronte and Winters. Later that day, there were skid marks next to him and his head was gone.

So how many deer did you hit yesterday?

Re: Dead deer. - 07/19/14 11:43 AM

That was a nice buck. When I used to travel up to hunt around Jayton I seen some pretty good deer between Winters and Sweetwater on 153.

Working on a year round season, I like that.

I helped you out the other night by trying to keep the buck/doe ratio in check. Actually she committed suicide by sticking her head in my right rear wheelwell.

Re: Dead deer. - 07/20/14 03:12 AM

At this point in velvet, wouldn't the horns just rot off like meat?

Why would anyone do that?

No. You can either preserve the velvet or let it fall off. There will be hard antler underneath.

Whoever did it had better not take it to the taxidermist to be preserved unless they know them real well.

I bet whoever got that head HAD intentions of mounting it like it was, and I bet now it's definitely going to be a euro.

It would make a cool Euro, but they would need to do it theirself or risk trouble taking it to a taxi. It's preserving that velvet that's the tricky part.
