Weekend of snakes

Weekend of snakes - 05/27/14 09:39 PM

My brother, his family and a couple others went camping this past weekend somewhere near Junction Tx on the river. Friday night at a campsite next to theirs, the coral snake slithered into the crowd and was almost stepped on until someone saw it in the dim lights they had burning. Then on Saturday, they were all walking up a trail and the buzz-tail made a strike at the point man. Before they could do anything, it slithered under a fence and went underneath an old shed. They noticed that where it had originally been when it struck at them, a baby cottontail rabbit was on the ground taking it's last few gasps of air. They left and came back about an hour later and the snake was back on their side of the fence with the cottontail almost swallowed. This time they were armed with a shovel and whacked it, killing it before it could finish it's last meal.....

LOL txvarminter.... One was armed with a rake, the other with a shovel. The shovel bearer did all the work, the rake bearer got all the fame....

We killed 3 rattlesnakes before the rain came last weekend. The rain had them moving.

I took my Boy Scouts out on a hike in a State Park once and we came across three boys about 10 years old poking a coral snake with sticks. They said that they had been playing with it for about 10 minutes. They had no idea it was poisonous until my boys recited the "red and yellow kill a fellow" rhyme. Luckily by then the snake was almost dead and we decapitated it before we continued down the trail.
