Pig with Tag in the ear

Pig with Tag in the ear - 12/03/13 09:49 PM

Shot a pig this past weekend with a tag in it's ear. She was prego to boot.

This little guy fell out at the point of impact

Here is the tag

I've known guys that will catch boars, cut them and release them but I've never seen anyone catch sows and tag them??? This was in Wood County.

Might be wrong, but isn't it illegal to release anything but cut boars. (Not a P&W regulation, but a TAHC regulation) That sow was probably in a feedlot or something and escaped. That tag might be a fly tag. We used them on calves years ago to keep flies away from their faces in feedlots. It looks kind of old, but might still smell a little "chemically." In any case, good job on getting that breeder out of the gene pool.

Probably a pet. We have raised 2 ferrel hog piglets. They make great pets until they get bred. Then they disappear and go wild. Had a tag in one of ours ear and someone shot her about 3 years after she disappeared.

That's just a ztag that rancher write whatever they want on them! There was a hunting ranch that had a hog preserve with some hogs with different color tag on them they said they were bounty hogs! The ranch was in Titus co on sulphur river

Texas Tech did a study on our ranch in Kent county a few years ago and ear tagged about a hundred or so, and radio collared a lot of them as well. Bad thing about it was the batteries went dead on the collars and now they cant recover them. We have found a couple and recovered them, but once released there is no telling where they will end up....

Clean the tag off with a wet rag and then hold it up to the sun. Usually, you can see the lettering with the light shining through the tag. Like holding an envelope up to a light. grin
