Nice cull - 12/01/13 11:59 PM
After Thanksgiving dinner, loaded the kids and headed to the lease to spend with my mother, father and sisters family. We have spent Thansgiving weekend this way for as long as I can remember and it is a tradition that I am excited to share with my kids.
My sister has grown up in a family of hunters, but was never interested. A few years back she started dove hunting and one thing led to another until 3 years ago I was blessed enough to be with her when she shot her first doe. She has shot a few since then and decided this year, she wanted a buck. My BIL decided to let her have his trophy this year if she got the chance. We gave it a valiant effort, but was unable to get her on a nice buck this weekend. She was a trooper but the events of the weekend left her tired and she decided to sleep in this morning. Without her with me and having wind issues, I gave up the bow and took the rifle to the open country in hopes of finding a doe or nice buck.
First light showed 7 doe and this buck. Wishing she was with me, knowing it would have been a heck of a first buck, I went ahead and took this cull. She is planning on spending a little time up there in December and hope we can get her on a good one
Kids left last night to head home with my mother, so didn't have either of them with me. We all had a great time and I am thankful for a great family, a great place we can all go and do what we love.
