Re: What a Shame - 11/18/13 02:14 PM

I hate that. I've had to do that a 2.5 yr old eight point that was hung in a fence. I cut him loose and hoped he would get up, but his back was broken. Sad day having to shoot a great little buck that was just laying there.

That exact same thing happened here near Bryan Texas but the buck died before we got there. Nephew has the photo and the horns, I'll see if I can get the photo posted..

Found a doe with her leg snapped and twisted in the top two lines of barbed wire when I was 10. Dad wasn't around and I had to put her down. Damn near made me not want to hunt again... I got over it. Just makes me hate fixing fences all the more.

The one that I found had his leg stuck through just the top strand. Any ideas on how that could've happened?

Re: What a Shame - 11/18/13 10:20 PM

We loose a couple a year, normally right along the same fence line. It sucks.

One of my neighborhood bucks got hit by a car a few weeks ago. He was a nice little 10.

Sad to see. Maybe it'll go to a food bank or be served at a Game Warden banquet.

Fences probably kill as many deer or more than hunters each year. Sad to see but....

Re: What a Shame - 11/18/13 11:35 PM

Why is it I can hunt and shoot them, but when I see that, all I want to do is help them? It’s kind of twisted, help save you today so I can shoot you later.

That's called sportsmanship brother. I'll help you when you're down, but tomorrow it's game on.

Re: What a Shame - 11/19/13 04:52 AM

Happened here in Dallas a couple years ago at White Rock Lake except he got his antlers stuck with another one. One lived and one died.

What do those people need iron spikes on that fence for?

That's true. We've had a couple get caught on ours and we don't even have a top strand, just 48" net wire.

Re: What a Shame - 11/19/13 11:05 PM

Sometimes those deer make it look so effortless when they jump fences but I've seen my share of close calls. Too bad.

Re: What a Shame - 11/20/13 02:58 PM

I have to put down more deer that are hung on those fences than any other. Hate those fences.

oh man how did he get into this predicament? That's too bad. Was a nice good looking buck. Another year or two and he'd a been really nice.:(
