Can't keep the snakes out! Just have to deal with them if they get in there I guess.

You are going to be a very happy camper. There are not many places where this will work but in the right place they are OMG deadly! Yours is the finest I have seen.

Re: New pit blind - 07/29/13 12:57 AM

Man, I bet it's 10 degrees cooler in there for an early season bow hunt, and 10 degrees warmer in the dead of winter. Awesome blind

So what are your plans if it fills up with water?

Re: New pit blind - 07/29/13 02:38 AM

Sump pump that will run off a car battery or have to take a generator out there. Be nice if there was a creek or drop off close by that was lower than the bottom of the blind. Could trench you a line and put a pvc drain in it. Pour you a thin concrete floor!!! Hey you could even pee in it!!!!

Just be careful of snakes, I know of a ranch that has a pit blind and snakes are always in it. It did turn out nice.

Snakes, skunks, bobcats, spiders, hornets, zombies. Don't open the door in the dark

WWII style. I like it.

Re: New pit blind - 08/27/13 03:30 PM

Removable screen on the windows will keep the snakes out. A 12volt deer feeder battery and a boat bilge pump will get any water out. Good hunting.

Re: New pit blind - 08/27/13 03:31 PM

Very cool!

I have thought about building one, but it filling up with snakes, bugs, or water is what has stopped me.

Sure hope it doesn't kill any of those trees. Looks nice good luck!

Re: New pit blind - 08/27/13 04:37 PM

that is soo cool man. good thinking. you may want to line the bottom with gravel for mud control if you get wet. just a thought.

Re: New pit blind - 08/27/13 06:05 PM

Nate took my boy to look at and they chased a rat out so there's gonna be some critters get in it but who's afraid of a little snake or rat once in awhile I mean we are all grown men right, the dominant predators, the ones with the guns, walk on two legs, y'all really gonna let a little snake keep you from a prime hunting spot? Oh and now my boy thinks I'm building him one too.

Re: New pit blind - 08/28/13 02:08 AM

If you have properly constructed a parapet around the blind to shed run off water there should be no problem with water/mud. A bucket mouse trap will remove the mice (use clorox instead of water) and therefore the snakes. Tell the critics to give it a rest - this is a great plan!

Re: New pit blind - 09/14/13 03:02 AM

Very nice!!! Did you leave the floor dirt?

Helped a buddy build one similar to yours. We poured a concrete wall around it and in the floor. Slight slope on the floor to a trench drain that released into a sand/gravel mix to disperese it. With the concrete walls, we were able to seal almost all of the penetrations and install solid flip up windows. He has never had a snake or varmint get in, just a few bugs here and there.

I like it cheers

Re: New pit blind - 09/14/13 11:48 AM

Very nice Nate. I like it.
This fall will be my 3rd yr to hunt out of my pit. I got all the same responses about mine.... snakes, varmints, water, etc....the next snake I find in mine will be my first.
These things are a scream to hunt out of... Really helps with your scent, warm in the winter , cool in the fall and you can wave your arms at a deer 10 yds away and not get busted...
I go in once a yr with a good bug spray and I'm good to go for the entire hunting season... Here's a couple of pics of mine under construction.
