Soldier hunt weekend, pictures and video - 04/08/13 12:45 PM
I had the good fortune to have a chance to take a soldier hunting this weekend.
Chase (ski0617 here on THF) and his lovely bride Maya joined me for a hog and turkey hunt this weekend.
Chase is currently stationed at Ft. Hood. He has been on various bases around the US as well as serving a tour in Afghanistan.
I couldn't have asked for a nicer couple to spend the weekend with.
Saturday morning I got Chase and Maya set up in a blind that showed heavy hog activity, plus I had been seeing a number of Turkeys in the area.
They had both deer and a few hens show up and had gobblers surrounding them, but the gobblers stayed in the brush instead of coming out in the open.
A little before 8:00 am, a hog made its way to the feeder.
Chase waited until the hog cleared the feeder legs and made a great head shot on him.
Hog down!, was the text I got from Chase.
Since the turkeys were still gobbling despite the gun shot, I waited a bit before going to help with the hog.
Sadly, the gobblers refused to come out in the open, but Chase got his first hog and made one heck of a shot.
Here are a couple of pictures of his first Texas hog.
Chase and Maya were all smiles.
The boar had some nice cutters on him, the picture doesn't do them justice.
Maya also shot video of the hunt.
While we didn't connect with any Turkeys, we had a great time none the less.
Chase, thank you for your service.
I would also like to thank Nathan Nelson and Gordon (Father of 4) for being an inspiration to myself and others in trying to set up hunts for those that are serving our great country, and those that have served. Hats off to you both.
