Another Knife-New Design

Another Knife-New Design - 08/29/12 10:45 PM

Here is a new design for me anyway. This one has a polished CMP 154 blade that checks 60 HRC. Bolsters are Aoudad horn and the scales are English Walnut that came from a tree that my Dad and I planted 29 years ago. It was split and part of it blown down in a storm about 5 years ago and I kept some of it for scales.
Mosaic pins and red liners top it off. 3.5" tip to bolsters and 8" overall.
I'll try to get some better pics later. These were taken with my phone in the shop. Those aren't scratches in the blade, just some smudges from my grubby hands.

Thanks guys, I'm trying to decide whether to finish it out and put it in the classifieds or just keep it.
I don't make many that I seriously consider keeping but this one has me thinking.

Looks good Mike. You always need one to test. Test it out a little in a couple of months.

Mike, really nice work and excellent finish and polishing..I/We
all use smaller knives when skinning and butchering mostly now
as we cull shoot and do about 4 to 8 deer when we are thru or
sometimes daily..which usually puts me tuning blades w/my buddy
Mark skins, debones and quarters...We have gone to more expensive
knives simply because they are less work and hold an edge longer.
Your work is outstanding...and I've done some of it so have first
hand knowledge..DDD

At 60 on the C scale the CPM 154 should hold an edge for a long time. We have a kitchen knife that I made from the CPM 154 a couple of years ago and it very seldom needs the edge touched up.

That looks good, does it have an edge on it yet? blade looks flat?

No edge yet. That's the last thing that I do before shipping one out.
