Great looking buck, of course they always look bigger from that angle. Do not think he would have much ground srinkage though

Looks like they're headed for the only cover around...that water tower waaaaaaaay off on the horizon.
Time for a "Texas heart shot"! Was this in Gaines?

Yes this is Gaines County. This is actually just a bit over average here. Where this one was is known for deer well over 40" wide. There was one poached in this same place that was 46 wide. He shot the wrong deer because the one we were watching him running with would have scored much better. I guess it happens....

Big deer in the Andrews/Gaines county area, that's definately a good specimen.

Dandy buck. I used to work with a girl who's family had a couple sections outside of Seminole, she said there were lots of deer. I never followed up on it though. I dropped the ball on that deal.

Re: Mule deer - 08/04/12 03:41 AM
I wish. We have watched a lot of the big bucks all over the county, but dont hunt them much. Im more of a whittail man, but have killed a couple nice mulies. Here. This one was just a random coyote hunt that we pushed them. They started at 50 yards but before I could get my old camera out the does busted. He was not far behind.

I have never heard of a place in Texas that is "known" for deer over 40". Hell, I don't know of a place in the world that is "known" for deer over 40". Would love to see some pics

Re: Mule deer - 08/05/12 07:12 PM
i have 23,000 acres leased about a mile from where that pic was taken and personally watched 4 bucks last year that would go 36-38", took one of them as a cull (9 point) that was 36" - let all of the others go because it was such a dry year - the 46.5" buck he referred to was poached by an area landowner, the buck had an inside spread of 45" and is the widest inside spread muley ever documented in the U.S., there was a story about that buck in Muley Crazy magazine a few years back titled "Forbidden Fruit" about some of the largest muleys ever poached

My Google-Fu must be pretty weak cause a search of muley crazy+ forbidden fruit= an article about a Arizona muley but nothing about Texas.

Here's a wide muley for you. Killed in 1962 - widest in B&C records, I think. Over 49".

Re: Mule deer - 08/07/12 12:44 AM
the Mundy buck truly is probably the most impressive muley ever taken but it's inside spread was 26 5/8", 49" was it's greatest outside spread, the buck poached in Gaines Co. had an inside spread (inside the beams) of 45", the Gaines County buck has the widest inside spread ever measured on a mule deer
post a pic of the gaines county mule deer. 40'' mule deer arent that common, especially in texas. Id like to see the monster

Re: Mule deer - 08/07/12 01:26 AM
muley crazy magazine
"The inside spread of this deer was 45 6/8" and it gross scored 222". The deer had 13 scoreable points and had 30" main beams.
the H-4 mass measurement on the right side is over 6 inches...... Who would have thought the widest inside spread ever recorded would have been taken in the year 2002, and in the State of Texas!"
i have plenty of pics just don't want to post them because this was a poached buck. one pic is the rack setting on the back of a toyote pickup and it just likes an inch or two from going taillight to taillight
so what if it was poached. That means you cant post it? plenty of magazines publish pics of poached monster bucks all the time
