First and Second Kill with the new bow! - 07/26/12 06:40 PM
Well, we went out the other night to get a big pig that kept coming up the feeder at about 9:00 PM like clockwork. We sat down in the stand at about 7:30 and got positioned to get the first kill with the bow.
As fate would see it, no pig came to the feeder last night, we climbed down out of the tree around 9:45 and decided to do a little stalking, we came around a bend and saw a raccoon bouncing around a field and were trying to figure out what had him so spooked.
After keeping our kill lights off for about 15 min and stalking around we came back to the field where we saw the raccoon and there were about 8 coyotes in the middle of the field! We couldn't believe it! They were so busy chasing around field mice i was able to stalk into about 35 yards and take the bottom one with the first shot....complete pass through the neck, (interesting how you can watch those nockturnals go through the body) didn't make a sound. The grizz trick did it's job.
After I took the first one, there was a good celebration of the first kill with the bow, but we decided to see if we could get another. We walked to where we saw the group run and saw them again, they were standing right at the edge of the tree line looking for us. I don't know what it was about that night but these dogs were not getting spooked too easy.
We made it to the tree line and saw one to our left, I was able to nock and release another arrow. i hit this one in the neck but it ran off pretty quickly, the grizz trick i hit him with let out a 30 yard blood trail right to our second victim.
Sorry for the long winded story but I am so pumped to get the first kill with the bow.
Thanks for the time.
