Price on caliche/crushed limestone road?

We are looking at buying a piece of hunting property that has a 1/2 mile easement to the property. I'm trying to find a place in the North Houston area to build a driveway, but I'm not having any luck searching on the web. Does anybody have any recommendations for a place that has good prices on building caliche/crushed limestone roads? or something similar? I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

unless u have deep pockets, and since it is just a road to the hunting place, and not to ur house, id go with just regular old gravel..... not sure what u call it lol! JMO...we have limestone up to my house, but that is driven on everyday, at all the places, we just have gravel (we have our own gravel pits)

The last time I priced it, crushed rock or caliche done right was 90 cents a foot. That was 3 or 4 years ago. A lot may depend on how far they have to haul it.

Well it is going to be a family hunting place, but I'm also going to be living on it as well.....so the driveway will be driven everyday

Really?? that seems awful cheap. I would have thought it was 3-5 times that much. The easement is 2,600 ft.....so that would be $2,340.....just doesn't sound right to me, but I hope you're right. That would be nice.

BTW.....there is already a very good foundation built to put the road material on.

The product is the cheap part. Around here there are rock crushers everywhere, and the rock that is used for roads will vary from $90.00 - $130.00 per 14 yard load trucking included for a 60 mile round trip. Try to get it delivered in a belly dump and it will cut down on the amount of work to get it spread out.

If the road is 10 feet wide by 2600 feet long=26000 X .90 cents. I don't know about you, but to me, THAT'S A LOT OF BENJAMINS~~~~~

I did a half mile limestone road on my ranch at the coast that cost $20,000. Go with limestone or at the least half limestone half gravel.

I'm in the process of building/repairing my road in Kimble County. I don't think there is any hard and fast "$/ft price" for ranch roads. You just need to have someone in the business come look at what you're wanting and then give you an estimate. There are just too many variables such as the terrain, surface conditions (culverts needed), tree/rock removal, and distance to the material pit. I was able to offset some of the cost on my road by digging a tank and using the material for the road base but I was fortunate that the specific place I wanted the tank was almost solid limestone (or unfortunate as it increased the cost of the tank significantly). Even so I still have way more money than I want to mention in my road and it was only 4/10ths of a mile long (a lot more than $3000!!!) and remember I didn't have to buy the material.

IMO, the road base material is the most important aspect. You can always have it re-worked if the equip operator screws it up but buying more material is a pain and super costly (I'm paying $300 per 12yd load!!!!)

I use crushed concrete on my driveway (driven daily). I like it because it's angular and the rocks lock into one another instead of splashing out from under the tires (like washed rock does). Also, the crushed concrete will still have a good bit of powder. At first you'll think this a screwing. But if you wet the stuff down after you get it spread out it will re-harden and set-up good. Kinda like concrete does. This seems to make the driveway last a little longer. I order it 20yds at a time, it's a full dump truck and a pup trailer. A belly dump would be better but I have a creek and culvert in my drive that won't handle that much weight. 20yds usually costs me $3-400. I then rent a bobcat from a local equipment company. I can spread the 20yds in a couple of hours, then use the bobcat to do other ground work around to house. I'm about ready to do my drive again. This time I'm gonna use a tractor with a front end loader (I can borrow it for free). We'll see how that works out. I figure it'll take a good bit more time, but my time costs less these days.

Oh okay.....that makes much more sense. I thought "Texan Till I Die" was saying it was 90 cents per linear foot. That's why I was so confused.

Crushed concrete. Lasts longer, cheaper, locks pretty solid. If you get some w/alot of powder it almost becomes a street again.

are u gonna be building the road urself, or do u have to pay someone for that too??? that will raise ur costs quite a bit....

You might want to check with the county or state road and bridge offices in your area. Some jobs they remove asphalt with a machine that makes very good road material. A lot of times they recycle it but sometimes they haul it off. You might also check with large contractors in the area that gets these jobs sometime they screen the asphalt and crush the concrete and resell it.
