Maybe a little hokey…opinions wanted

Maybe a little hokey…opinions wanted - 04/01/24 02:29 AM

Few years ago, I shot a buffalo and had the skull euro’d and the hide tanned. Picked up the euro in short order but completely forgot about the hide, went to visit my taxidermist Friday and he told me that my hide had finally arrived. Not really sure what to do with it, I bagged it up and took it home.

Thought about it and decided to see how it would look on the floor of my office. There was two fist sized spots on the back where the hair has been rubbed that came off during tanning that the chair hides well. It is replacing a white and grey square cowhide rug.

What is the consensus on this? Personally, I don’t hate it, but it being [Linked Image]

new I am going to withhold the final judgement.

Looks good but I’d be very tempted to get a jacket and or cold weather hat made out of it.

Might be the angle, but trimming the edges could improve the appearance.

I like the recurves on the wall.

Got any wall space? We have a few deer hides on our walls or draped over a banister, and they look good, but only on certain walls. Of course, a Big Shaggy hide changes that equation quite a bit.

I've got zero wall space that isn't allotted for something.

The way my house is designed, I have very little usable wall space outside my office ( which is pretty full ) and the upstairs game room (which I rarely venture into)

thanks,

I try and shoot a few times a week. I haven't had near the success I expected to have hunting with trad equipment but I keeps things interesting for sure.

Forget about a 150 inch 8, forget about a buffalo hide - starting to see a pattern here. How old are you?

I think it looks good with the chair there, also how often does someone sit in that chair?

I think having the hide is very cool and couldn’t imagine
taking such a great animal and not having it included as
a keepsake. Just since you’re asking I wouldn’t use it
as a rug for reasons already mentioned like dirt/dust
accumulation. I would drape it over a chair back
or sofa/love seat.

If YOU think its hokey, it probably is hokey.

I have an Elk hide. I have a bench in my living room and I draped the hide over it. Might drape it over a chair or couch or something.

Looks great. We have 3 bison hides laying about.
Not hokey at all, just some of the comments are.

I have shot 3 bison. One that I got in MT in the winter became a bedspread. I assure that you will not get cold sleeping ubder a bison skin. Her cats like it too.

Mine is used as bed spread in the guest room, and since I only like abut 5 people, it is rarely used. But, when my brother comes to visit he LOVES sleeping under it especially in the winter. He will have the ceiling fan and a box fan going though!
