Shed Hunting - 02/13/23 01:54 AM

Well I'm starting to think shed hunting now that is February here in North Texas. Still a bit early for deer to be dropping sheds here. Most have dropped by the end of March or beginning of April. Took a walk today in some woods and fields near me just to say I've been out once looking already and it was such a beautiful day outside. Not surprising I didn't find any sheds but I did see 2 deer right in front of me as I was walking and a ton of deer tracks. Still early with most deer still holding but the time is getting closer. For all you shed hunters in Texas more specifically North Texas around the DfW area when and where have you found the most deer sheds?

Welcome to our forum.
I’ve seen several on cam that have dropped but it’s early for the majority.
Best odds of where to find is wherever they spend most of their time. May jar em off going over or under a fence.

Have you tried looking in your back yard? I looked yesterday and found a 10x12 shed stocked with tools and yard equipment.

I found a nice one yesterday in the middle of a cow pen but most still have not shed yet.

Found a handful last weekend but only one from this year. A couple from last year, two from two years ago, and a few old chalky antlers I didn’t get a pic of

we find most of ours around feed pens - and trails coming to and from the pens

If your feeders are still throwing corn you can wrap some loose chicken wire or tie some brushy limbs around the legs. Corn needs to fall inside the tangle. Easy shed acquisition when the timing is right!

I wasn't even looking and found one at my feeder last weekend...little 4 on one side, remember seeing him at the feeder during the season. The dogs have enjoyed chewing on it all week...they make great dog "treats" or bones.

She is good at it. I took my ex to lease last year. Told her I was going to look for sheds. She ask if she could look I said ok just stay close to the Polaris because of snakes. I found 1 she found 4.

I took the neighbor's kids down to my ranch for a cookout and hiking day . The 10 year old girl found a nice 5 point shed real quick and her 7 year old brother found a hog skull . He asked his mother if he could keep the " pig face " .

I seem to stick one in my tractor tire every year. I'm in Collin County and so they aren't small either

I have not gotten out as much as usual, but did find two fresh elk sheds a few weeks ago.

Finally had a nice weekend up here and got out for an atv ride and found a few mule deer sheds.
Spouse is going up tomorrow and look around another area.

Re: Shed Hunting - 05/03/23 01:44 AM

Well so far so good. I jerked that shed out and slammed 3 slime soaked plugs in the big hole and 2 in the smaller hole. Did 5 more acres today and still holding air.
