HR 45??? - 07/21/09 09:33 PM

HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this "little" piece of legislation would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver's License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25. Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Guns must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

is this legit?

It's legit, but was DOA. No co-sponsors, never moved out of committee...even the NRA considered it absurd enough to not use it in fund-raising letters, which says a lot!
I think it was filed in late Jan or early Feb, and yet still is making the rounds on the `net.

The best part is that the bill was introduced by Bobby Rush of Illinois, the founder of the Black Panthers and a person who has served jail time for illegal possession of a firearm. Rush's district is in southern Chicago and obviously the strict gun control they have in Chicago has done a lot to lower the crime rate there, so it only makes sense to take it nationwide.

So basically we have a convicted felon who is not allowed to own firearms, introducing legislation about firearms. Of course I don't think a felon should be allowed to be in congress at all, but I guess if you are from Illinois it doesn't matter. After all, Burris purchased his seat in the Senate and everybody knows about it, but still nobody did anything. Amazing.
