I think everyone likes the 270 Win.
You would sell more tickets if the gun could used for women and children. For a money raising gun I would choose the 243.

.270 wins in my book, easy to get ammo, cheaper ammo, versitile
Our Church does "Men's Dinners" once every two months where we have 5-7 raffle items for men to purchase tickets for if they choose. As far as guns go, we have done a Remington 597 camo .22 rifle, Remington 710 synthetic stock .270, Benelli Nova 12 gauge, Remington 870 wood stock 12 gauge, remington 12 gauge camo turkey gun, H&R snake tamer .410 shotgun and a henry lever action .22 rifle.
All have been very popular as far as interest. Not sure how you are going to do your raffle, but lemme know if you have any questions. I'd be more than happy to share anything we have done.
To answer your question...I would try to stick with either a common, most widely used by as many people caliber as possible on a rifle. Probably a .270 would be first choice, 30-06 next. As far as a shotgun, I would recommend a 12 gauge in whatever you go with. Another thing to shoot for (pun intended) is to do a gun that most people don't have. For example, the Henry lever-action .22 is something most people don't have. Most people have a .22 rifle, but not a cool lever-action. Also, most may have a .270 rifle, but not one that's camo stock. These are ideas we have thought of. Hope this helps!
Go with two guns, Ruger 10/22 and a Remington 870. Two guns for the price of one.
ill be honest.. if its not a real expensive ticket, and its for a good cause, i dont really care what kinda gun it is... i mean if i win it and i dont like it, its not that hard to sell or donate to another raffle........ so just pick a gun. just my .02

Im gonna go with a .243 or a 22-250. I agree with the idea that they could be used for women/children also. Heck, throwing out ideas....I would get a rifle/scope combo also. Good luck. Let us know over here. I bet you could sell a ton of tickets.

Someone needs to start a poll on this, it would be much easier to make a dicision.

Why don't let the winning ticket pick what caliber or gun he/she wants. Let the ticket be worth a certain amount of $$ at the gun store and if the the winner wants a more expensive gun then he can put some more dollars with it.
Wherever you acquire the gun, will most likely allow them to trade calibers, we do on donated guns here locally.
IN many years of Fire Dept and Athletic Club and Rodeo Club give-aways, stay with COMMON NAME BRAND and Calibers, fancy is wasted, cheap won't draw, stay middle of the road.
We are full up on donating guns to the locals, but I'll sell one at or below cost to a worthy cause that wants to raffle one.
