Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County

Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 06/26/17 03:44 PM

They got us within the last two weeks at the camp house and the sherif stated we're not the only ones. Looks like they either came by and stayed a while or made a few trips.
The chain at the gate was cut, knocked the lockbox off the front door to the house.. knocked the lock of an old camper.. stole lawnmower, generator, tools, lots of petty stuff like backpacks, old snares, old binos.. went through every cabinet and drawer in the house.. pulled all the liquor out of the cabinet, but left alone.. funny thing is, they left the good stuff like 4 wheelers, trailers, AC units.. things of higher value.. not sure if they wanted things less traceable, or if it was just crack heads looking for quick cash. Everything is replaceable, but just sux knowing someone came into our home and helped themselves to our stuff. Lesson learned and precautions taken.. I almost hope they come back now so we can identify the POS's..

Good thing you put the game cams up. We had a break in where nothing was taken, the guy came back a week later with a truck and trailer to get the golf carts. By that time we'd put up some cameras and left a note for him. Haven't had a problem since.

We also put up a "Warning! This property protected by electronic surveillance!" sign going into camp. I don't know if it'll deter a group of migrant workers looking for supplies, but it helps keep the honest people honest.

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 06/26/17 07:17 PM

I'd bet $5 they come back, also you find stuff in pawnshops with 50 miles. They may not have had means to take the bigger stuff,,yet..

Hope they get caught red handed, if they steal, they will do most anything above that IMO.

There are some good solid deputies In Hamilton, they just get spread thin like most of Texas.

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 06/26/17 08:19 PM

Our camp in central Oklahoma gotten broken into a few years ago. They too stole a bunch of worthless stuff, and left some of the more expensive items. I asked deputy about the randomness of the items and he told me it is methheads. They will take anything that they can easily sell for a few bucks at garage sales or flea markets. In my case, the took coffee maker, toaster, propane canisters, cheopo silverware, and all of my DVDs (35 or 40). They also rifled through all first aid kits, probably looking for pain meds, or allergy meds that can be used in cooking meth. Worst part was not the stuff they stole, but the damage they did to my camper breaking open the door.

And in our case, they robbed us the week after deer season had closed, but before we had gone up and broken camp. Guess they didn't want to chance facing a bunch of armed hunters. That was the second time I had been on a lease that was robbed, but the first time, up in Knox County, it was most likely kids as they didn't steal much, just trashed a bunch of stuff, mostly with a machete that we had left in camp.

Had someone come and rip off my propane tanks on the RV at camp 3 months back....then went into the camphouse and took a dump and left it for us.....

Hit the pawn shops in Gatesville..That's where most will take stuff...We had a bunch of tools stolen from a job site a couple years ago..Even had last names on some of the stuff and pawn shop in Gatesville still took them....

Meth cookers like the propane tanks because they can transport fertilizer in them without suspicion unless you look real close.

We checked gatesville this weekend and put the word out, but the sheriff thinks the guys are coming from Hamilton based on the path of burgleries. Need to check up there as well.
If you see an older husqvarna riding mower for sale, let me know.

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 06/28/17 03:55 AM

We have found them with Anhydrous Ammonia in the propane tanks. They will then turn in the tanks for new ones to get rid of the evidence. The bad thing is the ammonia will de-grade the metal and when it goes under pressure it could lead to gas leaking out around the threads.

I'd trade it all just to see a couple mug shots of some severely beaten individuals. I don't care much about the stuff with the exception of our mower... total loss around 4K-5k

We had it happen recently as well. They did not take items like generator, range finder binoculars and a lot of hand tools. Had not thought about them coming back with trailer etc to haul stuff away. Going back this week-end, hope all is well.

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 07/10/17 06:00 PM

After a couple of break-ins and attempted break ins, the best advice I got was to make sure they can see inside your camper, camphouse, cabin, and make sure what they can see looks like you never leave a think there they could carry off and sell easily. Of course, that s cks, but it is better than the aggravation of replacing doors and windows (they even stole a window ac once...ripping out the aluminum window frame.)

We just started keeping everything in a couple of big totes that we never unpack. It takes under a minute to throw them in the truck when we get ready to go to the cabin.

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 08/03/17 02:57 PM

Sorry for your loss. They stole my trailer in Dickens county last year. Cut my chains as the locks were heat treated. I would love to give the SOBes a well deserved reward as I cannot afford to replace it now that I'm retired and the insurance has 1000.00 deductible and the trailer was a 1000.00. I'd have no qualms in beating them to near death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coryell County Sheriff's office just made a huge burglary ring bust. Multiple thefts from multiple counties. They found a barn and a couple of those Conex Container boxes crammed full of stuff. You should check with them.

that's good to know

I am N.W of Coryell

back in July, they broke in my place and stole lawn equipments, rock bars and a bunch of other stuff... including a trolling motor I used for pond fishing
but they dropped it on the road on their way out. They cut the electric company 's lock as that's the only weak/brass lock on my gate.
They cut the tabs on the shipping containers to get in but couldn't cut the locks as they were tempered steel

They also dropped their own credit cards on my place

Name on the Card: Richard House Jr. (Thurston, age 31 , born 1986 )
lives in Round Grove TX (Comanche county). Was told by a local
that he's been caught selling stolen cattle before.

wouldn't surprise me if Richard is involved in a burglary ring.....

I reported his name to Comanche Sheriff (Deputy Ken Schultz )

Ken did some research and thinks this Richard is connected to other thefts in surrounding areas.

Unfortunately, when the deputy went to have a chat with him, he had already
left town and went to South Texas

Not sure of Coryell is considered south Texas, but it is south of me

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 09/18/17 06:44 PM

Comanche County is a bit too close to me for comfort. Glad he has fled for time being. Like a lot of you, at my place, I don't leave much worth stealing, but as I said earlier, the worst part is the damage that can be done to the property.

I am investing in a security system now that barndo is complete, but also thought about posting a sign near door that says, "Property is under audio and video surveillance, if you can read this sign, you are being photographed. Also, we do not leave guns/ammo, medications, keys, or electronics of any value here when unattended. Move on and all I will do is keep your photo on record in case there are future problems."

Not sure if that would accomplish a single thing - thoughts?

I did have a trail cam mounted high on an electrical pole, they took that too

I now have:

1. trail camera with cellular text service, hidden 30 ft up in a tree
they can steal it if they find it, but hopefully it has already sent
pics of their vehicle/plate and faces

2. another trail camera hidden near gate to capture vehicle and plate

3. 4 ARLO wireless cameras inside , will record videos and email you

can view remotely on phone

4. 6 HD camera with night vision mounted outside structure, will record
videos and notify you with TEXT if motion detected

Can view remotely on phone

5. SimpliSafe wireless alarm system (door sensors, motion sensors) with monthly monitoring @ $!5

Probably the best investment you can make.
Cameras catch thieves, but Alarm Siren will
make them want to leave as soon as possible; add that with police dispatch... hopefully they
will be caught

Does have wireless cameras that you can view on phone

**********Update***********

Sheriffs office called and asked us to come by next Friday to gather our things. Not all on the report was confirmed but we know they have some of our things. There's a lot of stolen inventory recovered according to the reports, so we'll just have to sort through next week with the office.

Hats off to the Coryell Sherriffs department for all their hard work!

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 09/22/17 01:31 AM

I met a guy who did some time in prison for burglary of habitats. He targeted deer leases almost exclusively. He did it during the off season because he was less likely to bump into people. Also, he said hunters tend to leave nice things at the lease including guns. We've seriously considered a cellular game cam to monitor our camp area close to real time. Right now we have a couple of regular cameras hidden around the camp area.

Good luck, I hope you get most of it back. My ex boss had his house in the country broken into and they stole a few guns, some jewelry, etc., well the cops busted the people and recovered most of the stuff. When they went down to Police station, the most expensive rifle was not there (Weatherby 300 mag), cops said it wasn't recovered. Next week in the paper they do a story on the bust and there is a picture of all the stuff they recovered (picture taken at the police station), the weatherby was in the picture. Never got it back.

Re: Thieves in Coryell/Hamilton County - 09/22/17 03:24 PM

That's shady^^

Our expensive stuff has been confirmed like the riding mower.. little things like tools, backpacks, boots etc haven't been, but there's tons of recovered inventory.
The article I found stated they recovered appx 150k in stolen items.

They busted a man and a woman for it. Just found out I know the guy's parents. His mother was actually pretty high up in the TDCJ system before she retired. They're good people, but I'm guessing the boy got into the meth scene and it went south from there. I'm sure they are none too happy about it.

Glad to know some body was caught. I'm glad you were able to recover some of your stuff. I've been hit several times over the years and very seldom do you get anything back. Sad to say, but some people don't associate the drug problem with the crime problem.

I do , and I don't make any excuses for them

once addicted there's only one way forward for them to support the habit : Theft/Burglary... sometimes murder ... self destruction

had a friend told me recently that he wanted to try X drug, I told him it's good for nothing,
and only losers would resort to such destructive form of adventure seeking

proceeded to tell him that if he's addicted don't come to me for help, none will be given
... and if death or prison results from his actions , he deserved every bit.....

he never brought up drug experimentations since
