Another lease member showed up yesterday evening while he was hunting. If it gets too bad they atleast have each and can cuddle up to stay warm

Alive and well. One of you clowns broke the internet and I couldn't post.

Went to sweet water for ton of corn and ATV battery. Filled dad's feeders and two of mine. Will do other ones tomorrow.

In my long range stand now. Feeder bout 300 yards. Bumped handful of does and decent buck coming in. Already seen a new big 6 and nice grey fox.

On vacation all week so time is on my side for the pigs. Deer moving already so this may be a fun hunt.

Still here. No hunting this morning. Big fire to west last night and was up most of night watching that.

Pigs were 75-100 pounds.

Fire ended up being someone burning out a ravine full of brush. From where I was it looked like the whole northwest corner of our ranch was on fire. Fire trucks came through camp trying to get to it.

My brother will be out there tonight and I will be there Friday night!!!

My brother is down there now and hunted this morning.

Said he had some good bucks show up running does but couldn't get a great look at them with the overcast skies. Said he heard a cell phone and some dogs. Then saw a nice buck come crashing through brush jump a fence and crash through more brush with does following. There is an oil rig in his area so not sure if they brought their dogs with them or what was going on.

My Beagle was on point this morning in camp . I started to investigate and found a doe bout 35 yards away.

Shooter class 8 we call goofy at north feeder.

Goofy left. Cows came through and ran for off but she came back. Got cows in road to the north and a spike and 4pt just showed up at north feeder.

Lots of cows in north road now 6pt came in and ran doe out of road. Another just joined the 6 at south feeder. Just heard close shot maybe guy next to me.

Guy next to me shot a nice 8. I think it was Goofy. He actually shot him twice once in the right shoulder and again in the high spine ribs area. Saw him drop and watched him for a few minutes then drove to the feeder and he was gone.

I got a text to come help and we had good blood and bone fragments. Followed for about 50 yards and I think I bumped him from the creek bed he ran into. Followed good sign then started to get pretty scarse. Last blood was at about 4 different trails he couldn't have gone down and no more blood. Ran out of light and with us bumping him once we decided to back out and going to follow up tomorrow morning.

We followed blood for I don't know how long. He went into a creek bed followed that for awhile then made it up the other side and crossed the ranch road to the power lines and followed light blood along a trail. Lost it then found more blood on another trail and eventually where he bedded up. Several good spots if blood then nothing at all.

Hopefully he will show back up but who knows. I am headed back home today.

U meen de part about no hogs around here, congrates on the two U took. got 24-7-365 ta hunt em. not finding wounded deer, ya that sucks. sounds like they did best they could though. on bright side, it not Snow White & the six dwarfs.

I would rather it had been goofy who us 4 and didn't do much from last season. Instead it was an up and comer 8 pt with lots of potential and he will probably shoot another buck since we didn't find him which jeans 2 less deer for next year.

It is what it is. It just sucks that this buck was talked about between 2 of the guys on the lease earlier and the guy agreed that he needed another year and then ends up shooting him. There were several other 4.5-5.5 year old bucks in his area that would have been a better target. I think he was just wanting to shoot a buck and it really didn't matter.

More pissed off that our bucks for next year are dwindling especially like this.

My brother is planning on going back down from Thanksgiving through Sunday morning. Hopefully he can catch up to his big 9pt on camera.

John we had 5 of us looking every trail possible and the blood got so faint you couldn't stay on it towards the end. After he bedded down I bet he clotted up and then moved off with no trace to be found. He was moving up through 11 towards the fenceline.

that does suck. ya can do like i been doing. up & don't shoot, set an example. first lease twas on got told by credit adviser, hunting lease bad investment. twas $250.00 year 1buck couple days for doe. 2 deer total. but 24-7-365 hogs. that's little under $1.00 a day. we walked out of credit advisers office & thanked em for advise. on lease we hunted for if deer stepped out & legal no one complained about shooting deer cause of potential. their were plenty of deer. as years went bye & talked ta other hunters, & arguements bout ageing & racks. could see were the credit adviser made a lot of sents. reading your posts, theirs all kinds of deer. it 4 deer county here, if nieghbor takes 4 the other takes 4 & so on. that gonna drop deer heard too. its legal. theirs over 4 bucks been on cam this year. opening week end sat didn't see any deer. ya i understand what ya talken about. was going ta use my muzzy ta try for 1 deer en & chillen. 1deer not gonna hurt in 4 deer county. may have ta use the . 270 make sure i don't mess up. some people have it tougher than others. could be the guy is just trying ta put meat on the table, he might have same credit adviser. Again sorry for your loss.

I was thinking if he still was alive I could put the thermal on him. It can see a deer heat signature from easy 600 yards.

John we let him lay overnight. If he is dead thermal won't do no good now. If he is alive going to be hard to tell if it's him or not and if he is still alive going to have a hard time getting after him especially after losing blood. Just my thoughts.

am sure that everyone that has followed this thread will agree. tis a waist of meat . as have stated in earlier post. sounds like ya'll did everything ya could ta recover the deer. hopefully the person not named in this thread will get chance ta tell their side. deer i never found. 1 buck county, & ya can sit for days not see nothing but maybe doe or two. deer steps out. ya don't always have chance ta age deer, or sit & judge, how wide, does it have two good browtines, is it spike or 12point. if ya blink its gone. Ya scrape ta make car or truck payment's, buy cheap truck, ta drive back &forth ta work, so wife & kids have half way decent car at house incase they need transpertation. what little ya save on the liabilaty insurance, ya pay for repairs, that ya save, cause can't aford the payments for a new car or truck. then cost of rent or house payment, or charging for material ta rebuild old run down house. then get told by credit adviser, ya waiting your money on a hunting lease, cause ya in low low low income. yet every one else is doing it & paying double, tripple, & even thousands for 1buck. yah, just isn't right. as pappy always say's: the more money ya have the more freedom ya have . people complain about Gov. shutdown. it don't do no good ta complain. we tried ta get just 1 doe tag. told not enough deer. so as pappy always say's: hogs the other wild game it 4 deer county, Not Complaining times is hard, harder for some. still waiting for hogs, they'll be back. my posts are cheap. lot of em, it says being submitted. yet get regected ing with android. tis a conspiracy i tell ya again sorry ta hear about loss of deer. am sure ya would have given high-five if it was recovered. best wishes.

I'm not good at judging age on deer but how old is goofy? Saw where you said earlier he didn't improve much from last year.

He is a 4yo this year.

Last year he damaged his left G2 and right G3 in velvet and how he got his name because his rack just looked Goofy from the damage. Last year he wasn't looking too good late in the season and was real skinny. I think his antlers development may have suffered a little this year as his body needed to replenish first. Will be interesting if he can make it and see what he can do.

Went to put a chair in a blind and had a big ole porcupine walk up on me. Was able to get within 10' of him for pics.

Had a pig come in at dark. Brother was 10 seconds away from putting him down when guy to east shot a pig and it ran off. Couldn't believe the luck !!

After a long hard night we up and ready to do battle with some pigs!

Got to stand at 5:30. Had big pig walk right up behind us at 6. He smelled us and started that purring noise that they do. He never came back. So far just see a 5 point .

Just got a text from my brother BDD!!! And to top it off he got her with a Marlin 30-30 I had bought for my dad for Christmas a few years back. Our dad passed away in early 2012 and this is only the 2nd deer taken with it with the other taken by my dad . Great memories.

Looks like my brother was having some issues with the high winds and cedar pollen this weekend so he left out around 1 this morning to go home. Atleast he got a doe and has a couple weekends left for a good mature buck.

Back at camp. Saw 3 more small bucks and a average doe. No clean shot at doe despite the fact she stayed for close to 2 hours. Dad needs to do some trimming.

He had fun and got to see some good deer so he is happy.

Tomorrow afternoon I go after Mega Doe with bow if wind is right.

Won't know till I get there. Just depends on how the wind moves coming over that hill . If I can't hunt that spot I will just move 200 yards south and hunt the other feeder in hopes that she might show up there. No pigs on camera at either spot in last 10 days so it's either going to be Mega Doe or nothing at all tonight. Looking forward to dragging the Xbow out again though.

Just got settled into bow stand. Feeder 26 yards and good winds. Was standing in front of stand and had 2 nice does walk up to feeder. Don't think either one was Mega Doe though. Had no choice but to run them off getting into stand. So 4 more by camp so they are moving early. Haven't hunted here since I got my buck in October so I like my odds.

Good 8 was here for 10 minutes and got a whiff of me. He didn't spook but did leave.

Deer all gone. None of them blew,stomped or ran so I think I am ok for now.

Just talked to him he is fine will let him update when he gets back to camp was kinda worried about him since I couldn't get a hold of him but he is fine.

Ok no pigs came back to camp with me.

Found arrow that belonged to little pig. Already knew I had a bad shot on her but followed blood and found her bedded up right at dark. Shot her with my pistol and she took off into very thick brush. I know she is dead now but not sure I will be able to locate that same spot in morning to find her.

I started the search for big pig after that but did not find arrow or blood trail and not even sure where he ran. Lack of blood on that one does not surprise me though. What worries me is I don't even have a direction or confirmation of a hit on that one. I feel like I did get him but I don't like my odds of finding him based on lack of blood or a direction to work with. Due to low light and low flashlight batteries I only got to look for him maybe 5 minutes though. I honestly thought the blood I was following was the big one until I walked up on the little one.

Will do a grid search for that one in AM. I know they are just pigs but my confidence with that bow is shattered right now!!!!!

You will find em. I bet you get on some blood once you have enough light.

Hope you are right but that brush is so thick you basically have to step on them to find them. The big one is the one that I am worried about finding since I have nothing to go on. The little one I can find if I take the time to locate where I was when I fired with my pistol. The big one ain't going to bleed though. Seen pigs that size not bleed to many times with a rifle much less a bow.

Now my Beagle is sick. Been throwing up for last 3 hours and very slow . Called vet and going to see how she is by morning then might have to head back to Big D without even looking for pigs .

Going to go look for pigs at 9 am. I really think the big one is hit for sure now because unless I was just seeing things I am pretty sure I saw a loose fletching within 2' of the arrow I found. Didn't think much of it untill I just noticed all the fletchings are still in tack on the arrow I found.

I would almost bet you were following both pigs and just happened to find the small one first. that much blood from small pig and it wouldn't still be standing I would think.

She ate a little but is still slow. The real test is can she keep what she ate down.

Sad thing is I was going to put her on the blood for experience even though I have a good idea where little pig is already.

3 hours of searching and all I have to show for it is a blood soaked fletching. Unbelievable!

WOW.

Just shot my Xbow to see if it's off. At 26 yards it's shooting about 3/4" high and half dollar groups all day long. So either I choked on the big pig or he is dead within 100 yards of the feeder in that thick stuff and I just can't find him. The little pig was a bit more difficult and the bad shot on that one didn't surprise me. Still can't believe with all that blood I didn't find her though.

Time to put the toy away now and break out the rifle now I guess.

Have a feeling Justin is gonna unleash some fury on some pigs this afternoon

Well I am back home now but I was hunting for pigs and a giant Doe I call "Mega Doe". She has outsmarted me for 2 seasons now. Had her coming in just about every day for 10 days so I went in after her when the wind was right and the pigs screwed it up for me. It aint over till its over though!

Yep it's stuck. Strange 4 point showed up. Signal getting weak.

Raise that antenna higher, we are 6 miles west of Rowena or about 6 miles east of Miles and we can get all the major stations from San Angelo and if we hold our hands just right we can get the Abilene stations. On some days we even get a signal out of Brownwood and some religion out of Midland.

It's as high as it will go. I just can't twist it side to side. I will check the stations again when I get back to camp.
