Hunting on leased land

Have been in Texas about two years, and have hunted nothin' but Fort Hood, have been looking into hunting some of the public land, but it did cross my mind to try and see if I could hunt on someone elses land. I'm originally from Kentucky, if you wanted to hunt on someones land there they usually didn't mind, and it was very far and few in between that you would have to pay to hunt their land. Here in Texas you gotta pay-to-play, I'm good with that, it's their land, they want me for hunting their land, why not, their land. I've done a little research into it, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but can I do something like a day lease? Got a lot of bills to pay and gotta watch my money for gasoline so I can go to work, so I only get to get out and hunt 2,3, maybe 4 days a month, and 4 days is pushing it. So where could I look or who can I talk to about maybe leasing land for a day? Well, don't think I can lease land for a day, maybe pay so I could hunt there that day, that sounds a little better.

This is something I'm looking into when i get back home, deployed right now in support of OEF, but when I get back was looking at expanding my hunting from on-post fort hood, to other places outside fort hood. Something where myself and/or my daughter (momma says she finally old enough to hunt with daddy , 11 years old) can go out and get away from everyone and just hunt.

Wow, some of these a little pricey, but thank you tlk, think I found one for $100 per day. That kinda what I am looking for, some hog huntin' that won't break the bank. Will look further into the site, but if anyone knows any other places, or if anyone on here will allow me to hunt their lands please let me know. Like I said, I'm deployed right now, so won't be able to take any offers for a little while longer.

personal experience...call Mike with Northtexaspighunting.com or pm me...he is a great guy in Jack county, he will put you on pigs unlimited for $150 a day, offers other hunts during season for deer. He is set up for blue collar folks offers an affordable hunt and works his tail off to provide you with the best hunt he can offer. Thanks for serving this great country! I used to hunt Camp Pendleton when I was stationed in Cali and had some great hunts on the base but you could forget any hunting off base, I bet the tree huggers have probably managed to ruin that option for Marines at Pendleton by now, that being said good luck and be careful brother.

Now that sounds a lot better, $150 per day unlimited hog, that I can handle. Bout 3 hours from Fort Hood too, that can be a cool little weekend trip. Think me and the kiddo would have a great time, thanks for putting me on to this kamolaw. Will definantly hit up Mr. Mike when I get in and get more info from him. And he got deer!!!! Never hunted deer before, dad started me off young with rabbit and racoons, teaching myself how to hog hunt now (no luck there), but have never deer hunted before, that might be kinda fun.

If you went hunting 10 days out of the year at $150 a day that's $1500. Who's to say that you will shoot anything in that 24 hr time frame. Even though it sounds like a lot of money $1500 isn't that bad for a year round lease. If you only go out there 4 weekends a year then you pretty much pay for it. But you now have the opportunity to take the family and hunt multiple species without a time frame. If you just want to go one or two days a year, then I guess that could work but you have to remember that everyone else is trying to do the same thing you are so animals get spooky cuz everyone takes a shot a one when they see it. Do some research in what county you want to hunt an call the county clerk, or the courthouse and usually they will have a list of property's and landowners that have listed their properties for lease that might not be advertising anywhere else.

Look in the outfitter section on here to get an idea of prices, etc. There's also a lot of public hunting opportunities that won't cost much at all. $48 I think, will get you access to more than 1,000,000 acres of type 2 land, mostly east Texas. It won't break the bank and you and your Daughter would have a great time I'm sure.

If your time is limited and money can be a restriction then pay hunts might be your best bet. What Txcatman1 said above makes some sense unless you have no lease equipment to start with- stands, feeders, etc. That can run into some expense and if you don't have a lot of time throughout the year then you don't have a lot of time to invest in a lease. It is good to have a place to get away to but sometimes it makes more sense to pay to have someone do all the work and you just show up and hunt.

A day lease at first is a good idea, when you add up lease cost, feeders, blinds, and travel expenses the costs can blow a budget out of the water. We own our place, but we still used to get a day lease every so often to spend it with other people and to have a change of scenery.

Wow, thank you Pitchfork, I would love to come out there and take you up on your offer. First thing first, gotta get my daughter her hunter saftey course and everything done. Gonna see if I can come up with a small muzzle loader for her. Been looking at the knight rifles, probably end up checking the pawn shops when I get back and see what I can find for her.

If you can't get what your looking for just make it out and I'll make sure she has a rifle to hunt with. I have extras for you and her to use if you would like.

Check with Chamber of Commerce in whatever county you are interested in.
