You never what you will find?

You never what you will find? - 02/23/14 08:47 PM

I've have lived in north texas for many years now. Im still surprised of what you can find on the roadways. Today on a side street in paloma creek, I found about 90 45acp and 75 38cal pistol component bullets. Apparently someone lost them in transit. Much of the 45 bullets are still usable. The 38s are copper/lead semi wads. unfortunately most are toasted. unless one could melt out the lead and use it to cast more bullets. So if anyone wants the 38 bullets pm me.

Two years I found an 18v Dewalt hammer drill on Hwy 380. Still have it and it works great. A few year prior to that, I picked up a 6ft werner Aluminum ladder on Hwy 377. I still got it too.

You said north Texas, but in north Texas, there is no paloma creek that I'm aware of, so where were you?

He's prolly in Frisco, off Preston Road ( Hwy 289 ) just south of Hwy 380...Paloma Creek is a crossroad I think, named for a nice very large gated subdivison.

Hwy 289 North/South is halfway between Denton & McKinney at Hwy 380, and runs from Oaklawn Rd just north of Downtown Dallas to 1/2 block from the end of my street where the DOT End of Maintenance sign is on Preston Peninsula at Lake Texoma, and continues almost to the end of the Peninsula as a Grayson County Road.

Not anywhere close to Claude anyway LOLOLOL clap

I have a not so fond memory of Claude from about 30 years ago...pulled into town going to Armadillo one frozen nite, dozens of Semi's parked on the side of the road & the Diner wall to wall with drivers. A Deputy asked where I was going, and offered me a nite's stay in the jail...or the church ...or another church but very very strongly advised that I not attempt to go to Amarillo because of the black ice covering Hwy 287. I got some coffee, gave him my personal ID info & home phone # and headed out.

I stopped halfway there to get rid of the coffee, stepped out of the car that was straddling the centerline LOL there was NO Traffic anywhere !!! and the wind blew me down...3 times before I could take care of business.

Took me 3 1/2 hours to get to Amarillo...from Cluade...only becase I could not turn around on the ice without running off the road. I should have listened to the Deputy and taken the kind offer of free shelter in Claude for sure even if it was in the Jail. I could see Amarillo plain as day...just was not too sure that I could get there since the car would do 360's in Drive if the choke was engaged...and would kick on if I was standing still. Best I could do was at a high idle with the car in gear.

Next day after I got my business calls made, anther THP trooper offered me a Ticket for Reckless Driving if I went around his Patrol Car parked across both southbound lanes at the top of the hill down in Potter County as I headed to Lubbock.....so he had proof I ignored his warning and his Suprvr wouod not fire him. Long story short, the THP guy got me my hotel room back over the radio and I finally got to Lubbock 2 days later.

Nope, Frisco, Collin County Texas is NOT anywhere close to North Texas as it relates to the Panhandle. BTDT

Ah ha, A fellow road shopper.
A few of my treasures:
2-6' fiberglass ladders, very minor damage
A few hard hats
2 great tow chains
More ratcheting straps than I can count
1- Winchester Bowie knife.
A few good ice chest, nothing great but usable.

But I have never found any bullets, good road find!

yes north texas. Off of Hwy 380 in Denton County. Paloma Creek is a big subdivision between Denton and Frisco. Technically considered Aubrey / Little Elm area.

But yes I guess I am a road shopper.

We've found some cool stuff as well.

Vacumn cleaner
Chain saw
Generator

Buttloads of romex wire

Know there's more I'm forgetting.

Last year I found an 18V Dewalt drill laying on the side of the road. Had a little road rash but works great.

I've seen several coolers fly out of trucks. With nothing in them they can catch the wind pretty good.

Set of ramps for the flatbed, 2 tow chains with hooks about 20 foot each, flashlight, pliers and some wrenches is about it for me.

I found a couple of toilets with the tanks still in boxes bang with the front end of my truck after they bounced off a 16' trailer full them on SPID in Corpus Christi in rush hour traffic in the summer on a Friday afternoon.

I found a 100.00 dollar bill on the side of the road when I still lived in Stephenville. I saw and decided to pull a U-turn to investigate, I'm glad I did! It was near The City Limits bar.

Don't want to argue, but if you consider that north Texas, then what do you call us that live in the panhandle? And it's not west Texas, bc that is the trans-Pecos/el Paso area.

A long time ago when I was a young man with a wife and 3 kids + broke, I was walking across a super market parking lot and reached down and picked up a bank envelope with $300. Made my rent that month.

Testically speaking you're right. Don't tell that to the news people who ALWAYS refer to our area as north Texas. You're in northwest Texas.

When I was in college we "adopted" a stretch of highway and did cleanup once a year. Never fail, always found porn on the roadside.

Re: You never what you will find? - 03/02/14 09:27 AM

I was driving behind some motorcycles in Central Texas (South of North Texas and long ways from the Panhandle) going down 16. They were going slower than I wanted to go, but I chose not to try to pass them, I only had about 20 miles left to go and in no big rush. Saw something shiny hanging off the back motorcycle down low on the rear fender. I couldn't really tell what it was. That's about when it came off the bike and bounced off the road a couple of times and then bounced up 9 feet into the air... headed right for my truck. I swerved a little and avoided it. Then I tried to signal the guy on the bike to let him know. I flashed the lights and he paid no attention. Honked a couple of times and still paid no attention. So I noted the mileage on the odometer to tell him if he stopped. The group stopped in the next town at a gas station so I stopped to tell the guy. At first he had no clue what I was talking about and then remembered he added some chrome thing to the bottom of the fender. He asked how far back it was. I said it was 5.9 miles back if he wanted to go find it. Apparently they were going back to look for it as I was leaving.
