What are the best No Hunting/Trespassing Sign - 11/28/12 08:24 PM
My father and I just had a new fence built between us and our nieghbor. We have had several problems with things going missing and what not and finally bit the bullet on a new fence. What are the best quality signs and what is the "purple" law requirements?

Sec. 30.05. Criminal Trespass

[indent
(1) had notice that the entry was forbidden; or
(2) received notice to depart but failed to do so.[/indent]
(b) For purposes of this section:
(1) "Entry" means the intrusion of the entire body.
(2) "Notice" means:
(A) oral or written communication by the owner or someone with apparent authority to act for the owner;
(B) fencing or other enclosure obviously designed to exclude intruders or to contain livestock;
(C) a sign or signs posted on the property or at the entrance to the building, reasonably likely to come to the attention of intruders, indicating that entry is forbidden;
(D) the placement of identifying purple paint marks on trees or posts on the property, provided that the marks are:
(i) vertical lines of not less than eight inches in length and not less than one inch in width;
(ii) placed so that the bottom of the mark is not less than three feet from the ground or more than five feet from the ground; and
(iii) placed at locations that are readily visible to any person approaching the property and no more than:
(a) 100 feet apart on forest land; or
(b) 1,000 feet apart on land other than forest land; or
(E) the visible presence on the property of a crop grown for human consumption that is under cultivation, in the process of being harvested, or marketable if harvested at the time of entry.

Purple posts at the gates mean that the entire fence line is the boundary on no trespass.
So the left and right post, with the gate or entry between them are the markers. Ive seen people back that up with signs.
NO TRESPASSING
Violators will be shot
Survivors will be shot again

No, see the law posted above your post. You have to post more than just the entrances/gates of fences.
Painted purple is really the easiest way to go, faster to apply, but tend to last only a few years depending on the posts and the paint used. It would be cheaper, even with good paint, than buying metal or Tyvek signs.

In Arlington near Six Flags and Pancho's, I think on 107th st there is a place called SASO or SAYSO something like that, that makes metal signs just like traffic signs, handicap parking ect...
IF I remember I'll look at the catalog tonight and get back to you. I'm pretty sure the name is SASO.

If you have a fence the purple marks aren't necessary. Those are intended to replace the fence if you have none. Signs aren't necessary either if your place is fenced, but it wouldn't hurt to put some up anyway.

The jackwagons that cut my chained and locked gate last year chasing after pigs in the middle of the night did so with a No Trespassing sign right in front of their noses...right next to the purple corner post....they also left the gate open when they were done, maybe i should have a sign on the other side saying Please Shut Gate on your Way Out?....

Put a big mound of dirt on your side of the fence with a big white cross driven into the ground on one end that say's NO TRESPASSING & CUTTING LOCKS!

I'd have to vote for this one. It pretty much comes straight to the point, and doesn't take a lot of imagination to figure out.

Most of these signs are a good way to help out the prosecution if you ever do have to use deadly force to defend your property.

Anybody ever try shooting trespassers and hanging them on the fence like coyotes.
Today I saw some plastic stencil type signs that seemed they might be cheap with a rattle can and scrap tin.

Sounds like section B saysa livestock fence is enough for notice to not trespass. You would just need to put a sign at your entrance if no gate or cattleguard.

I sent OGT an email to see if the signs are available for sale without the membership. I've got 3 of them. It takes a lifetime membership to get 3 now. I'll let you know what they say.

It's surprising how many people don't have a clue that the purple paint is the same as a no trespassing sign. I've got fence, paint and signs...and still have poachers on occasion.

Whatever you say on the sign, get a metal sign. My cheap plastic ones last about 2 years at best.

I use TSCRA blue no trespassing signs on our ranch but occasionally have one stolen. They apparently are a popular wall decoration in BBQ places. I've alsp seen a few in Western beer joints.

Howdy
Who here has input on a wack-a-doo who has no trespassing signs on a fence that splits HER property from my ranch (community property fence that I built)and then decided to paint every other T post purple.......Pisses me off that she VANDALIZED my fence.
The fence all by itself denotes no trespassing, the signs back that up but the PURPLE paint is an eye sore!

My friend owns a print shop in Ft. Worth and he made these vinyl banners for us at a very reasonable price, we ordered 18 and surrounded our entire property. If you are interested call him at 817-922-9777 ask for Joey.

After finding out on this forum that you are ALLOWED to trespass at least one time, (Only warnings given)I wouldn't waste my money on signs. A fence is all you need to mark private property. I know a lawyer in Glen Rose who owns land along the Paluxy, his signs don't say "No trespassing", instead they say, "Not responsible for accident or Injury". I believe that trespassers have more rights than you do as a landowner.

There's a good one at a place near Paris - Paraphrasing "This area serves as the backstop for an actice shooting range. Trespassers could be accidentally shot"
It is at a gun club, but it could work anywhere.
